Interesting thing happened. TV tuner stopped working yesterday morning. On iOS the error message was "Unable to evaluate play request. Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna. Code: 5000.
I rebooted the shield first with no success when up and running again.
Looking at the Live TV & DVR section in Plex settings it showed all channels correctly and even correctly showed the EPG but stated"dvr Device not found. Ensure your device is powered on and connected to your network"
I thought I would delete the DVR and try and add it again. When selecting set up plex dvr button i’m greeted with “We couldn’t find any hardware we recognize, but will continue to look for available devices” and it fails to find the Tuner.
The console states the following when trying to find the tuner: “[Req#2a5b] Grabber: timeout waiting for Plex Tuner Service to finish starting.”
I tried an identical usb tuner and have the same problem.
I’ve tried restoring a backup on the database and it took me back to where I was before I deleted the DVR…

The same thing happened to me. Plex could not find the tuner starting on Wed morning, April 18. I noticed that the Nvidia Shield had just updated the Plex Media Server.
I rebooted the Shield, and also disconnected and reconnected the tuner. I checked both USB ports on the Nvidia Shield to make sure they were still working. I also connected the tuner to my PC, and it was working there. So it doesn’t appear to be a hardware issue.
I’ve got the same setup as you. NVidia Shield with Plex version 1.40.1.8251, using Hauppauge WinTV DualHD (USB). It started on or about 4/17/2024. I get “Playback error. Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.” Very disappointed at the lack of response from Plex support. I do have a plex pass.
After many hours of work I finally managed to get it working with the beta release of Plex Media server. It was a bit of a ball ache it must be said, but I now have a working system again.
From what I’ve seen on the forums, if enough people have the same problem and report it to the forum, eventually a Plex employee responds and begins to work the issue. This is actually my first post to the forum; I thought I could add some critical mass to help getting the problem fixed.
The Plex staff do like to see the Log files, so if you can post those when the problem occurs, it will be easier for them to fix the issue. You can download the log files from the Plex web app.
That’s good to hear that the next beta version is working; I was about to try to roll back my Plex server to the last working version and turn off auto-updates. But now I will just wait for the next official version.
Interesting. That’s the version I’m running. There are no updates to PMS in the play store - my Play store version has the same version number too but says it’s the beta. Maybe they made the beta the general release?
Possibly. There’s another thread where PMS support worked to get a working version available in the store. They may have made the beta, the general release as you said.
