Hello to all the members,

I subscribed to this forum because I found, by reading all your posts, that you all were very helpfull. Hopefully, you will have a solution or some guesses to fix my issue.

I just bought a USB tuner donggle Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (v 1592) and tried to make it work with my ShieldTV & Plex Media Server (PMS):

1. I plugged it to the Nvidia ShieldTV USB slot on the back of the device (Farest USB slot from HDMI port).
2. I connected my TV antenna wire and saw that the tuner green led was on.
3. I went to my Plex menu (from a PC/windows/Chrome) and selected the Live TV & DVR menu and clicked on the “SET UP PLEX DVR” button
4. I didn’t get any USB device detected menu as expected but the “We couldn’t find any hardware we recognize, but will continue to look for available devices” message.

I live in France and it seems that should work in this country.
So I went thru a lot of discussion on that “not detected tuner” issue and found a lot !

  • I verified that I was not in a developper mode that could have made the USB port unavailable, I also checked the USB port was working by plugging a keyboad and it was OK.
  • I went thru the switch off/ wait a few minutes/switch on procedure … No effect.
  • Using the Shield set up menu (application & system application) I stopped the Plex & PMS process and reboot the machine but that didn’t help either
  • I checked my USB wire was not defective
  • I am using the last versions of Plex & PMS
  • I had a chat with the Happauge support chat but even if the guy tried to help, I couldn’t have my issue fixed.

Has anybody from this forum managed to make this usb tuner donggle work (at least detected) on this configuration (Shield + PMS) ?
Do you think that it is linked to the new Android 11 update ?

Many thanks to all the ideas or help you could provide !

I don’t own a shield but to have a knowledgeable guesstimation on why it doesn’t work I would lean toward driver support in the Android kernel.

I could be totally wrong though but this is where I would start to look.

Hi Kegbeach,

Thanks for your analysis.
unfortunatly, I am not an expert in android. :grinning:
I would expect that, if that was linked to the last version of Android 11, that would cause some issues to Happauge tuner + the shield former users ?
I believe they would lose the tuner feature and would start complaining: I haven’t seen that yet in the posts…
