HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD Live TV & DVR Setup - No Channels Found

Running Windows 10 - Version 1709
Plex version 1.9.7.4441
TV Tuner: HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD 1609

When I go to setup the Live TV & DVR it recognizes both HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD devices. I will select one and then click Scan Channels. It will run for about 5 seconds and then come back with "No channels found. Make sure your device has a signal from your antenna and try scanning again. If you hit the scan channel button again it will do nothing (will not rescan). I will click previous and then click the other HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD device. I will click the scan channel, but it does nothing. I will click previous and now it just sits there spinning looking for compatible devices, but never finds the card again. It will stay this way until I shut down the Plex server and bring it back up and the same process will start over again. I don’t have the WinTV application installed and I have even done a direct line from my antenna to the PC. I made sure I am on the latest Windows 10, latest Plex, and made sure I have the up to date drivers for the HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD. Looking for any help at this point since I have seemed to exhaust all my resources.

Update today to Version 1.9.7.4460 did not fix this issue.

You could try installing the WinTv software to make sure your channels are being picked up. It could be a problem with the tuner or the setup.

It does work on the WinTv software so doesn’t seem to be a tuner or signal issue.

SO basically this problem is still around and it is 3 months later. Why is this DVR functionality advertised if they wont fix the problem. I figured out how to get it to scan by shutting down the server and restarting, but it still will say “no chanels found”. Well when I use the software for the device I get a ton of channels, so it isnt the signal. Anyone have ideas? I have scoured the forum but am coming up short here.

Looks like my problem was the player that came with my tuner (AVerMedia AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q) was pointed at the tuner and not allowing Plex access. BUT, I still had to figure out that I needed to completely shut down the Plex server to even get it to recognize the tuner. So 2 problems here that would have been nice if Plex gave me a TIP as I was encountering the problems. took 2 hours to figure out. Just a friendly tip saying to shut down the server and ensure nothing is using the tuner would be nice. Just saying “no channels found” is about as unhelpful as a sack of rocks.

So I recently built a new Plex server machine using the same tuner card, and amazingly, Plex scanned and picked up all my local channels on the first try. Though, I think the order in which I installed things was…

  • Installed Plex on the machine and got it up and running
  • A week later, installed the WinTV-quadHD card
  • Installed the WinTV software/drivers for the tuner card.
  • Then scanned for channels inside Plex first, without trying the card out in the WinTV software

Maybe the fact that I scanned with Plex first got me around the issue you were having. Just posting so any future people who try this similar setup might have better luck.

Plex does list on the Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas support article that the other software might cause conflicts.

I’ve just installed a WinTV-QuadHD today. I only installed the drivers from the Hauppauge website - not the Win TV 8 software.

It works fine - both tuners scanned the correct about of channels. No problems at all.

I installed the driver only and i’m not finding any channels. Same card. Any ideas?

Try dmesg, I have the same problem and I see in log that I am missing a firmware file. As mentioned elsewhere, ubuntu installer installs only firmware files for devices, that are present at the time of the installation. I found the .fw on the net, copied to /lib/firmware, now restarting the machine and hoping for the best

Oh, you are running windows, then it is something else. But for other people running linux and not getting any channels found, just download

https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw

move it in /lib/firmware and restart your server. It is working now for me.

I have the card installed on Win10, loaded the WinTV-quadHD software as well.

Can scan on server and pick up channels.

Added to Plex, sees 2 of them as expected. Scans channels no problem.

However, in Plex, Settings -> Live TV & DVR after an unknown amount of time (Just happened to check) i get the error “Device not found. Ensure your device is powered on and connected to your network.” on both instances.

Double-However: It still works when I go to watch live TV on Plex or record a show. .

Any ideas/comments on that?

thank you so much, this fixed it for me!
