Unable to access Plex remotely unless server PC is powered on

Server Version#: Version 1.112.0.359-0d79a49f (Plex Media Server installed on my computer, connected to my NAS)

Player Version#: Version 4.157.0 (Plex Web, accessed via a web browser from another computer to test functionality)

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with Plex and remote access, and I’m having trouble understanding where the problem is coming from.

My setup is as follows:

Media files (movies and TV shows) are stored on a MyCloud PR4100 NAS

  • Plex Media Server is installed on a computer, which connects to the NAS to access the media files

  • I access Plex from different devices (Mac, another computer, smartphone)

The issue is the following:

I can only access Plex on other devices if the computer running Plex Media Server is turned on.

If this computer is turned off, I can no longer access the Plex server, neither on the local network nor remotely.

I am therefore wondering whether this behavior is normal or if it is due to a configuration issue.

Do any of you have ideas or suggestions that could help me understand what is blocking access and how to make Plex available at all times, including when the computer is turned off?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something here but for Plex to be able to run, the computer where it is installed needs to be turned on.

Probably a wild guess

The your computer IS the Plex server. If the computer is off, the Plex server is off as well.

AFAIR, there is a Plex Media Server which can be installed directly on that NAS.
Which then would turn your NAS device into a Plex Media Server as well.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how to install and configure this version, because I have no experience with WD NAS devices.
