I have recently started adding 4k content to my collection and since it’s difficult to transcode these x265 files, I have two versions of the a lot of the same movie - one in 720/1080p x264 that can be transcoded to wireless non-4k capable devices and another in 2160p x265 that gets direct played across a wired LAN. These are in separate libraries under separate folder structures - 720/1080p content is in one library called “Movies” and 2160p content is in another called “4k Movies”.
The problem is, when I play a 4k movie in any media player (Roku, AndroidTV, etc.), the artwork then gets blanked out for the 720/1080p version. All of the metadata is still there, but I have to manually go in and set the background and poster for the 720/1080p now. It’s very frustrating.
So watching a 4K film causes the same film in a different library, different path, different resolution to lose all of its artwork?
Dang.
Type out a few complete paths of the above film in different libraries.
Use a Preformatted Text block please.
Plex has the ability to merge or split a film. Were they ever merged or split?
Were they ever in the same directory? Have you tried to Plex Dance the low res versions?
2160p movies are in this path “\NAS\shared\HD_MOVIES\UHD Movies” under a library called “4k Movies” and 720/1080p movies are in this path \NAS\shared\HD_MOVIES\HD Movies" under a library called “Movies”.
I’ve attached an example of Stand by Me where I recently added the 4k version and already had the 720p version in my collection. It seems as though it only happens the first time I watch a 4k movie. Once I go in and manually change the poster/background back on the 720/1080p version, it seems to stick.
