Don’t know if we’re going to be having the same issue but it started acting up again. Just switched back to my motherboard ethernet port.
It may be related, but do you see the same behavior if you use a local client instead of a remote client?
Yes identical Behavior. And live TV is not even accessible via the server when it starts acting up… Just says cannot connect.
Okay so I have found one problem or the problem. I had an access point which it was actually a wireless router I plugged into the Lan port to still make it visible on the network may have been causing a problem. When I unplugged it (painting my house so I was unplugging it multiple times starting yesterday) and plugged it back in it would cause Plex which was connected via a network switch to essentially flat line. This issue continued happening until I would change to a different IP address on my computer which is where I was getting the resolution of changing ethernet ports. After taking the wire out of the lan port and putting it into the wan the issue stop immediately and the bandwidth monitor was back to looking like a heartbeat and not a heart attack lol. Fixed my problem fingers crossed, if it continues I’ll let you know:) crazy how finicky things can be.
A few things:
Whatever that WPEngine outage was apparently isn’t the problem, because the status page now shows normal and i still got nothing here.
I tried changing the VM NIC to an Intel E1000 with no change in behavior. I’d really like to avoid changing my host NIC, but if someone from the engineering team thinks that’s a valid thing to try, i guess i’ll do it. I just don’t see how that would have any effect on this. Networking clearly works because i can get to the machine and the web interface directly. There’s something else going on here.
I’m also wired to every device i’m trying on, so there’s no flaky wifi in the mix on my network.
Still not the problem. Mine is working but buffers every 5 secs. I have 500/500 hardwired. I think it is my ISP as i lost 2 packets out of 30 pinging google
Have you tried rolling the server back to 1.18.0.1944. I read a post the other day about Live TV issues on later PMS.
Just chiming in, ignore me if I’m off track
I’m having trouble finding a deb package from a reliable source. Can’t seem to find old package downloads on the Plex website.
I did just try upgrading to the beta channel version 1.18.2.2015 (PlexWeb version didn’t change, still 4.12.2) with no change in behavior.
Another point of reference.
When i try to tune a channel, PMS starts a transcode job, and shows in the Activity drop down as recording a live TV session. The job does not show when you click into the Activity dashboard(Nothing is currently being played). I can also see it generating files in the transcode temp directory that continue to fill up the drive seemingly until you kill the transcode. Interestingly, the bandwidth/CPU/RAM graphs also do not work until i restart the PMS service.
I’ve never tried this process but worth a read HOWTO DOWNLOAD PREVIOUS PLEX VERSION - #14 by qsub1234
Do you have the older versions on your server? If you upgrade via the UI it keeps the download on the server.
So far past 24 hours been running great. I think it turned out to be a Fios internet problem. I had their Engineering Department contact me and they changed my key tags which I’m not sure what that is but it fixed the issue almost immediately.
Managed to dig up an older package from a backup i had made. I rolled back to 1.17.0.1709 and all is working normally. Seems like something around 1.18 or so hosed up the ability to tune channels on a HDHomeRun.
For reference, my current working setup:
Debian 10 VM
16 cores
16GB RAM
PMS version: 1.17.0.1709
PlexWeb version: 4.12.2
HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO (HDHR5-4US)
HDHomeRun firmware version: 20190621
I’m a rookie with Plex live TV here. I just set this up today, first time ever. HDHomeRun is connected and Silicon Dust’s HDHomeRun windows10 app is playing my broadcasts just fine. Plex finds the tuner and gives me a guide with 35 channels, but none of them will play. I get Playback Error - could not tune channel for every single one. Running PMS 1.18.2.2015 here. Any suggestions for a rookie? Things I should rule out? Or did I just pick a bad time to try this out and Plex is having issues with live TV on PMS 1.18? Thanks in advance!!
Try the beta Windows client instead of the Browser. Overall you want to be using clients that natively play mpeg2.
Having the same problem just after patching. Running Plex on an NVIDIA Shield and using HDHomeRun Quatro . Error on the web browser when trying to watch live TV is “Playback Error This live TV session has ended” No error on the Shield app just stops playing. Log file attached
Thanks @pl_5309… unfortunately, i get the same inability to tune channels using the PLEX app on my Fire Stick in the living room. That would indicate it’s a problem with PMS, no?
Looks like the perfect storm of updated clients and server clashing.
Is anyone out there using an HDHomeRun paired with PMS 1.18 where this combination IS working for live tv? Can anyone tune channels using this combination? Thanks!
