Hi, First Post!!
I am having an issue on my LGCX where if I am playing a 4K HDR video with 7.1 in either truehd or dts-hd ma the video will be distorted and produce a rainbow effect.
I am aware that my tv does not support dts audio but it does support dolby.
What confuses me is that when the audio is being transcoded it sometimes works fine with dts 5.1 (Tenet for example here) sources but always creates the glitch with 7.1 (godzilla [dts-hd ma 7.1] and wonder woman [truehd 7.1])
I am not really sure what to do as some of my files only have a dts 5.1 or 7.1 track and cannot be watched on my LG but work perfectly fine on my samung tv in the bedroom (Planet Earth 2 for example)
Enabling DTS playback on plex on the LG tv gets the video working perfectly but without sound.
You might try remuxing the file with MKVToolNix or similar tools. There’s a chance the MKV container is damaged.
If remuxing does not help, then re-rip the disc / re-acquire the movie.
I’ve the same problem with one of my 4K HDR movies. Remuxing did not help in my case. I just don’t play the TrueHD audio track when watching that movie.
A quick update. The file is definitely damaged in my case.
MKVToolNix could not remux the file. I tried remuxing the entire file (select all tracks) and selecting individual tracks (ex: no TrueHD audio). MKVToolNix did not kick out any errors, but the process would complete in ~10 seconds and produce a file obviously too small (a few MB instead of 50+ GB).
Remuxing with ffmpeg via CLI did not work either (ffmpeg -i input.mkv -map 0 -c copy output.mkv). It copied all the tracks, but it did not fix the problem.
I ran the file through mkclean. It kicked out a lot of issues with the file. The output was ~50% of the original size and even VLC had trouble playing it.
After three strikes I quit trying to fix things. I’ll re-rip the movie at some point. In the meantime I will just avoid transcoding the audio when I watch the movie.
The file is fine as it works flawlessley on my samsung 4khdr tv, I think it must be an issue with the LG. Every day I am coming closer to getting a Nvidia Shield, it seems that using this as the client solves everyones issues and it means I can get lossless audio…
