Server Version#: linux server plex server V1.21.1.3876-3C3ADFCB4-LS16
Player Version#: roku plex version 6.7 build 4
So, I just tried playing a high bitrate TV show and all of the episodes act exactly the same. They produce static on the screen that occasionally morphs to mirror something that would be in the picture. If I transcode, it shows fine, but obviously direct playback is what is desired. The files in question are approximately 30GB per hour of film and about 78mbps bitrate. I have tried selecting alternate audio tracks to see if they were causing any issues. There are no subtitles selected.
I am using the plex app through my TVs roku OS to play back media from a local server. Everything is gigabit and wired. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.
They almost all are 100mbps. Most likely, for the company it’s about saving a tiny bit of money on each unit produced.
For some TV’s, you can plug in a USB 3.0 gigabit controller and get higher speeds than the regular ethernet jack! Also, strangely enough, some TV’s have wifi that can be faster than 100mbps ethernet. A few things to try researching, maybe you have options.
I think that TV has USB2, but even USB2 can do several times more than 100Mbps w/ a compatible adapter.
Roku only claims to support up to 40Mbps HEVC video, but often works with somewhat higher rates. On earlier TCL Roku TVs I wouldn’t expect full UHD BD rips to work; I haven’t tried a 2020+ model.
But static is really interesting. Excessive bitrate usually causes errors, or “slideshow” playback. Can you share mediainfo for that file, or a sample?
