I have done some testing and have determined that there is an issue playing back High Resolution Audio (HRA) TrueHD 96khz/24 bit tracks with the Plex app on Shield Pro 2019 and Xbox Series X. Audio cutouts occur often. These are not tied to network issues, AVR compatibility or server resources. I have the Shield connected to 1Gbps wired network, Plex server runs on a 13th Gen i7 with NVMe storage, AVR is new and does support the audio track.
Here is what I have tested HRA TrueHD 96khz/24 bit playback from:
- MKV over network from Shield with Plex - Cutouts
- MKV from USB on Shield with Plex - Cutouts
- MKV over network from Series X with Plex - Cutouts
- Disc Playback from Sony X800M2 - Plays fine through the AVR, so this is a valid test that the AV chain supports this audio track.
- MKV over network from Shield with Kodi - Plays fine, so we know the Shield HW can support TrueHD 96khz/24 bit, it’s just the Plex app on Shield not using that HW properly to play that track back.
- MKV from USB on Shield with Kodi - Plays fine.

Can the Plex developers respond back on this issue? Plex should be able to TrueHD 96khz/24 bit track without an issue on Shield, or any other HW that supports the audio format, especially since Kodi plays it back on the same HW just fine.
