Hisense and Plex issue?

Kinda annoyed at this , my Hisense is the latest U8QF and only 2 months old. Why haven’t Plex updated their app on these TVs.

To be fair to Plex, it’s not really their fault that Hisense refuses to update their embedded Plex app. Sure, Plex could keep supporting these older apps, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

yeah dont get me wrong theres no way any app should be using such broken versions of tls and its not like i bought the tv knowing it had a built in plex client

My Hisense is 2 days old :frowning: Plex worked on day 1, and now dead day 2.

I’ve tried all the settings - doesn’t work.
There was some talk about signing out your server and adding the IP manually, thus avoiding the need to go to plex.tv - but that also doesn’t work for some reason (yet it works perfectly well on my 7 year old samsung smart box!!)

I am interested in the nginx idea. I tried it using mitmproxy but couldn’t get it working.

Ultimately the TV is connecting to “plex.tv” - and even if we use some weird DNS hackery to get plex.tv to resolve to my local machine, my local machine won’t have a valid plex.tv certificate. It will have a ‘mydomain.com’ cert - so i don’t think this will work.

Happy to dig further if someone can give me some ideas though.

From what i can see, the hisense plex app is ONLY a wrapper around this plex-owned site:

https://plex.tv/web/tv/opera

That site no longer works - you get the same security errors.
Considering this is a PLEX site, and not a hisense thing, is it something the Plex team can fix, please?

Even the versions match up.

The only difference is that when you browse to this site via a web browser on a computer, you get an option ‘allow fallback to insecure connections’. When you browse on the hisense web browser, this option is missing.

The version though is reported the same - 3.13.14

i have exactly the same issue…

have tried everything i can find even changing the IP for an internal IP and i still get the exact same screen as you.

my TV is also about a week old… interesting times

seems like panasonic TVs are getting a fix but no luck for Hisense owners =( off to buy an android tv box then.

Working again!! Plex have fixed it overnight even for Hisense!

When you say that they fixed it, did you update the system on the Hisense or install a newer version of Plex?

I did nothing… No updates. Plex updated something at their end.

Weird! I’m still having the same issue… latest version of Plex.

Plex was working fine when I first bought the TV a few days ago. Seems to have broken when I installed the latest TV system update.

Does anyone know if factory reset on the Hisense will roll back that update?

My hi-sense TV still isnt working.

Driving me mad TBH its the kids main form of entertainment

My hisense TV is working again, had to reset the application setting, restart the tv & relogin plex. Thank god i didnt buy the android box yet.

Not true for me. Still getting the same error, even after restarting and relogging.

I don’t think your TV updating itself caused Plex to stop working. I started watching a show on Plex, turned off the TV and when I came back a couple hours later to finish it, Plex wasn’t working anymore (this happened after midnight on the day Plex said they were going to end support). Plex itself is refusing TLS 1.0 connections because that security protocol is outdated.

My Hisense 2020 is now up and running thank you to all that have helped

Plex has just started working again on my Hisense Smart TV just FYI
