I really am not sure if pkex fixed this issue or hisense fixed the issue. Im guessing hisense by the fact your still having the issue. Make sure your tvs firmware is the latest and uptodate. Also make sure plex is upto date and let me know how u go . I spent months fiddling with settings and tv settings and finally gave up and put this post on plex forums. Eventually the issue seemed to fix itself. Plex or highsense fixed the issuee in one of there updates. Im just not sure who fixed it as this crap tg updates itself when it wants.
Holy… i got it to work!
The hint was that secure vs insecure connections might make a difference… which makes no sense in this case regarding artworks but whatever.
As soon as i enabled the “forced secure connection” option Plex could not find my server anymore, despite both being on the same network and working in “insecure” mode, but without artwork.
So now i enabled/changed all network related options:
- enable relay
- enable remote access
- manually specify public port
After toggling the last option twice it showed my outside and server IP and at this moment i got artwork on the TV…
So somehow artwork only works if you can get a secure connection working, which also only worked for me if i enabled remote access, which again only works via “relay” or proper router firewall forwarding.
PS: I did double check and after adding full remote access with port forwarding and relay disabled, i now get a secure connection and artwork shows-up. So any insecure option, even with allow local network option or whitelisting ip’s results in broken artwork.
I also just noticed that now Plex really access all via “remote” this means my local TV streams from my local HTPC over the internet… lol
So unless i can manage to get a none remote connection working in secure mode, i either miss artwork or have to stream over internet, instead of LAN.
What a mess…
on my pc i have prefer secure connections, i do not have the enable relay ticked, enable local network discovery is ticked, strict tls is unticked. the three custom boxes at the top are empty. allow ip version 6 unticked. i dont have remote access enabled becasue i can never get it to work anyways because i run a pia vpn. so thats not enabled. so yeah a bit odd. when i can ill check the tvs settings when its not being used. but i think i have it set to not use secure connections. but like i said i just gave up and a couple months later it just started showing artwork.
Ok finally found the actual issue, so here is the fix.
For OpenWRT based routers, running Dnsmasq, disable “Rebind protection” in your routers Network/DHCP and DNS settings.
For some odd reason i see lots of “possible rebind attack” log messages from the Plex Server, so somehow the local Plex discovery is treated as a DNS rebind attack and blocked, so you have to disable this feature in Dnsmasq.
