So I’ve noticed an issue with this. Whereby if I select “allow insecure connections” (in advanced) to never, I can see all the artwork for my library, but I cannot play anything.
I don’t see an error, but the content loading circle just sits there for ages until I cancel it. I’ve left it for about 2 hours so far and nothing…
If I select “on same network” then all the artwork disappears, but I can play the content.
Same issue for me. At least, I dont have artwork for sure.
If I change allow inssecure connections to never, I dont even see my library on the same wifi network
I checked the “never” option, then tried to play an item for a short time, then stopped the logging. I didn’t set it back to “on same network” while the logging was enabled, as I know that the items play ok.
I have the exact same problem as the original poster. To get the images to be displayed, I must set “allow insecure connections” to never, but when I do so and try to play a media, I get the message “checking connection speed” then an endless loading loop.
However if I set “allow insecure connections” (in advanced) to “on same network as server”, the media plays alright, but I don’t get the images. Frustrating!

Any movement on this? I’ve just taken delivery of my Hisense U7N (UK, running Vidaa) and I very quickly became aware of this issue.
I too am able to disable Direct Play to get playback working, but this is such a sad workaround - the whole point of having a Plex server is to avoid using external bandwidth to watch media.
Can this be factored into the roll-out of the ‘new’ Plex experience, please? Don’t leave us Hisense owners behind!
Hello! There is a problem that the app on my Hisense TV is working strangely! It plays one movie or series from my own server, but not another. I haven’t found any relevant connection regarding how it selects. It doesn’t matter if it’s 720, 1080, or 2160! It starts playing and stops after 1-2 seconds. The error message says that the network is not sufficient for this! Which is not possible because if I click on another video, I can watch it without any issues.
having same issue on my u6 2024 hisense it looks like a transcoding issue as if i change from my asus pn64 nuc to my main pc with a rtx 4070 the issue goes away.
this did not happen with my old tv tcl android running android plex. so looks like a hisense plex version issue.
tested again and only runs for 1 min then freezes disables direct play and trying again on my asus nuc and pc will update
can play any video file on my main pc if direct play disabled. it transcodes 4k h265 hdr10 to 4k h264 sdr according to tautulli and any 1080p direct stream
any chance of sorting direct play as if 4k hdr10 played via usb it plays at full quality
I am able to recreate this issue - I have the option to either have no images from the server (backgrounds, covers, etc) but can direct play at 4kHDR10 with “Allow insecure connections” selected, or have images but can only play transcoded video (poorly), with “never allow insecure connections”.
It seems to be an issue with connection security, I have tried everything I can think of, I have allowed the IP of my TV in the LAN option in networking, disabled my adblocking, etc and nothing changes the above. It only effects my TV - the windows app (when IP is added to LAN addresses in server settings), and the android apps all work fine.
With secure connections set to “never” the logs say:
“Streaming Resource: Bandwidth exceeded: 117022 kbps > 2000 kbps” - though there are no bandwidth limits set anywhere (server or client)
“Streaming Resource: Cannot make a decision because either the file is unplayable or the client provided bad data”
“MDE: Rogue One (2016): no direct play video profile exists for http/mkv/hevc/” (and then the same for EAC subdirectories, etc.
With insecure connections allowed I get no errors that I can see - though no images appear in the Vidaa app.
In case you didn;t get this fixed, go to settings > network > allow insecure connections and set both to “allow when on local network” or whatever the option like that is.
