Hmm, an invite error... Sorry, an error happened when accepting the invitation''

I am having problems adding a friend to my server also. In trying to help him, it appears that he may have a locked account as he is not able to reset his password to his existing account. Would a mod be willing to look into this? I can PM the email address the account is associated with.

Thank you-

Yes PM me his email address. Not sure what you mean by he has a locked account. We don’t lock accounts. Dis he possibly delete his account? That would prevent being able to reset the password. If so, his account might be able to be restored. You will need to resend the invite afterwards. Nothing can be done with a deleted account.

Same issue here. I have three invites pending. None of them work.

I am also experiencing this issue. I am the one receiving the invite.
Granted I did not have an account before he sent the first invite. I have since created an account and he has resent the invite only to experience the error again. How can I fix?

PM me the email/username of the person trying to invite you.

I’ve just experienced this issue and thought I’d share how I resolved it in case it’s useful for others.

In our case, my friend signed up on Plex website using the “Sign up with Google” button. This automatically registered her as username@googlemail. com. However she always shares her email address as username@gmail. com. So the email address for the invite didn’t match. It took us a long while to realise this, because given she received the invite by email we just assumed the email address must be correct.

I sent the invite using her username instead and this worked first time.

In general, if the recipient of the invite insists on using their email address, ask them to copy/paste it from their account page on Plex website. It’s shown half way down the page.

To Plex devs: I think it would make it more user friendly if the invite system handled both googlemail.com and gmail.com aliases, especially given you offer an explicit “Sign up with Google” option. And if you don’t already, make it case insensitive too, especially as some devices automatically start text with a capital letter.

EDIT: By “friend” I mean my girlfriend. I’ve just been ordered to clarify this and I don’t fancy sleeping outside tonight.

Google is the only place where these 2 are equal. I’m pretty sure any other account system would treat these as separate accounts. I mean if you control your own email server, you could make any email an alias for another email. No other system would know they were aliases.

Indeed, but I did specifically mention the “Sign up with Google” button on the Plex signup page. I’m not expecting you to handle aliases for every email system on the planet. If you didn’t have that signup button, I wouldn’t even be mentioning it for Google.

But again, Google allows you to sign into your Google account using different aliases. Yes, emails revert back to the same location, but the emails are still separate entities. Internally, they have different ID’s so they can track which alias is being used. When you use the “sign in with Google” option, whatever ID you signed into is the account that gets assigned to Plex.

I’m also have a friend who keeps getting the error. I’ve sent you an pm/

Folk who just click sign in with google to create new plex accounts, are probably not the most experienced users.

And those that are, will probably understand how it works, and provide the correct email.

Having the same issue. None of the workarounds are working. Sending invite to Laura.wein@outlook.com

Your friend has not created an account using that email.

This thread is getting on a year old and I have similar issues with 100% of all my invites. I am not sure if even one of them have worked as intended.

So I finally figured out a work around for the link in the invite email error. This is what has to happen…

  1. The person who is receiving the invite MUST have Plex account set up first (this seems vital to the success)
  2. The Plex Admin sends an invite to a friend / family member.
  3. The invited guest IGNORES the email, but INSTEAD the email is the heads up for them to log into their Plex account / click on their Profile in the top right corner / Users & Sharing / Check to accept the invitation.

Only then was the invite successful and they were able to access my Plex library.

Until Plex fixes the email invitation link glitch…I hope this helps!

The issue was fixed several months ago. Every person that has contacted me since (except for 1), has been due to an error either in the invite or the invitee.

If you have a specific example, please PM me the email address in question.

That is good to hear. I took care of all my invites errors at the moment with my way above. But if I get run into the same challenge next time, I will certainly give you a buzz to see if can help!

Thanks!

I’m having the same issue here, but in this case the user I’m sharing with can access on her phone but her TV is having trouble now. And in my case it used to work perfectly, but since I changed my server to a new computer many users are having trouble finding the new one (despite me changing all my shared permissions to include the new one).

@Spazticus I’m going to need details.

Cool, thanks; just sent a PM about it.

Having the same issue with a number of users. Vlrusi@taltech.ee; user has an account but gets the same error off the invite.
