Ran into the same issue. Friend signed up for a plex account after the invite and then used a different email. Got around it by sending an invite through my mobile app instead of the web. Also I noticed the invites have a “&sharedServers=1” in the share link. Not sure if that makes a difference

That’s the issue. As I mentioned before, if you send an invite to someone, they need to create a Plex account using the same email address. The invite is linked to the email address not to the actual email invite. If they click on the email from a different Plex account, it won’t work.
I’ve had the issue across a number of users. All creating Plex accounts first, clicking the invite and logging using the same e-mail address. I’ve also had one user who had access, who I accidentally removed then reinvited encounter the issue.
This seems to have been going on for a while on and off now, what can I do to work around it?
Giving direct links, resending invites, making sure they’re logging in with the correct account - none of it seems to work.

Nope, nothing I can do. Your friend will need to send a new invite to the correct account or you will need to create a new Plex account using the email that your friend sent the invite to. There is no way to transfer an invite.
Having the same issue with an account. I’ve tried cancelling and resending the invite, but to no avail. Even had the other user delete their plex account and make a new one.

I’m also getting this error when my friend sent me an invitation. I have an account and my own server. I logged out and back in again to retry accepting but it gave me the error again. I was able to share my server with him no problem. I can even see his user icon but I cant accept his invite. What do?

Experiencing the same issue from recent invites I have sent. Any insight as to what could be causing this if email is correct and user has signed into plex.tv with their account on same device they are clicking invite email on?
I am also trying to add someone to my friends list and when they click on the link they get an error.
