I don’t know exactly what server/player version this started happening, other than to say it seemed to coincide with the big announcement in the player app that the Home Hub was smarter or some other stuff that I honestly thought was an early April Fools joke because it didn’t sound like anything the automatic management of the Home Hub hadn’t already been for years.
Anyway. Around that time (which is also the time that you get that splash intro when signing into a new install of the app to see new features), my Home Hub has been barely functional on my Fire TV Cube (2nd gen).
It’s anyone’s guess when it updates. I can go to individual tabs, like my TV Shows or Movies, and those might be more up to date (but also can sometimes not be up to date with what I can see accessing Plex via a web browser), but going back home, shows that show as recently added or recently watched can often still not show up on the Home Hub. What makes this a little comical is I can start watching one of these recently added shows via, say the TV Shows tab, where it might show up, pause, and come back, and it can show up on the Home Hub under Continue Watching, but STILL not yet show up in the recently added.
In past years, when the Home Hub wouldn’t auto update on its own in a timely manner, you could “force” it to update by going to an individual tab, like TV Shows, then go back Home, and it’d be up to date. That doesn’t work.
In fact, I’ve seen the Home Hub suddenly update, then left it, come back and then seen it go back to how it was before prior to updating! lol.
Going hand in hand with the Home Hub barely functioning in terms of updating in a timely and regular manner, is that after watching an episode of a tv show, as an example, and pressing back, I’ll often get some Unable to find item error message.
And, the other issue that also popped up at the exact same time is that, like clockwork, when opening Plex (not going back to it while it’s already open), the first tv show or movie I watch, you can’t access media playback controls or anything in the UI while watching. Can’t press right on my remote to skip forward a few seconds, etc. I have to back out of what I’m watching, then anything I watch after that works like normal in terms of being able to access playback controls, etc.
I’ve never seen Plex so broken in all the years I’ve used it. I’ve tried clean installs of a number of previous versions of the Android TV player to no avail. I’ve tried the beta versions. They’re even worse in how rarely things get updated on the Home Hub.
