HomePod apple tv

I am using the workaround but it doesn’t do a perfect sync. There are enough people using this AppleTV + Homepod setup to solve it.

Thanks

@skavi The Apple TV is already directly connected to the HomePods as the default audio device.

Using the non-legacy player in Plex creates problems:

  1. The latency, as you pointed out.
  2. The Apple TV can’t output to multiple audio sources (such as playing on the TV HomePods and to an additional HomePod mini in the kitchen). No sound comes from the second device, despite the Apple TV being configured to do so.

To be clear, every other Apple TV app handles both of these cases just fine – Netflix, HBOMAX, Amazon, Disney+, etc.

For now I’m back on the legacy player and everything works well enough, but I’m worried about Plex prematurely dropping that support before this issue is resolved.

I appreciate your reply.

It’s not just HomePods, there are multiple issues with any kind of AirPlay speakers.

Confirming this problem also with Sonos.

The suggested workaround is to “turn off the enhanced player”… can someone explain how to do that? I’m running Plex server Version 1.18.5.2309 on a Synology NAS, and the Plex Apple TV app 7.1.4 (23007).

EDIT - I should have looked harder  In the Apple TV Plex app, Settings, set “Use Old VIdeo Player” to “On”. That resolves the issue for me. I’m able to get the Apple TV to play via the TV speakers and Airplay to the HomePod, simultaneously, using this setting.

Has anyone seen anything ton ay theyre working on a fix so it can work with their new player?

I just wanted to bump, I have am also having this issue. I will try to go back to the old player and see how that goes, but I do hope a fix is in the works.

Verified to work for me as well on my gen 4(?) 64GB ATV and 2 HomePod minis. All my other AppleTV apps worked fine and I was stumped why Plex wouldn’t work.
