I want to rename some of my movies so that the movie file and folder have the imdb id in the file name and folder name, but when I do, plex treats it as a new movie, is there a way to tell plex to ignore it?
If the item had previously been matched, the following steps should make this work:
- Disable
Settings>[Server Name]>Library>Empty trash automatically after every scan - Refresh the library (or item’s) metadata before renaming the files – if you haven’t refreshed your metadata after changing the library agent, Plex will otherwise not be able to see they’re the same.
awesome thanks!
do I have to refresh the items after they are renamed?
Before you rename them.
If the item hasn’t been refreshed since you e.g. updated the library agent (or upgraded the library to one of Plex’ new agents), it could still be using a unique identifier related to a legacy agent. If you change the file, Plex could end up matching it with the new agent and considering it a separate item because the new agent and the legacy agent use different identifiers.
great thanks for helping!
