How come PLEX doesn't have a Restore?

How come, plex doesn’t have a ‘restore’ for the database? Under the "manage/troubleshot’ there’s a download button for a copy of the database, but there’s NO upload database button for restoring the database. Why?

Here’s a screenshot of pfsense, where you can download the ‘config’ data, and also upload it, should you need to restore the data.

Why does PLEX not have this??

Here’s the problem. How would you handle it?

  1. Databases and metadata can easily grow to be 50-100 GB
  2. At gigabit speed (assuming full 100 MB/sec)
  3. Download / Upload would require anywhere from 500 - 1000 seconds. (8.3 -> 16.6 minutes)
  4. In order to backup the database, all processes must exit the DB or the DB must be exclusive -locked

The alternative has been:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Use another backup means
  3. Start PMS

Typical return-to-service time - 2 minutes
