How do I clear the cache?

I am running on the most up to date version of everything on my 3B+ Raspbian. I think I need to clear the cache but I can’t for the life of me figure out the command due to it always saying permission denied. I believe that it is located in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches. When I try a command, it doesn’t give an output. If I use Filezilla, it says Permisson Denied. The main issue is that when I try to import new media, it messes up badly. One example is when I tried to import Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, a TV show. The file structure is set up so that its the title of the show, then inside that is a folder for both season 1 and 2, with their respective episodes inside it. It split the seasons up, one being set for Game of Thrones season 3 (while it is really TATBOPE season 1) and the other being Pokemon season 9 (TATBOPE season 2). It does the same for movies as well. I imported 92 movies. It took 91 movies and said they were all different versions of A Quiet Place. The remaining 1 movie being correct. How do I clear or reset it back to working correctly? Logs don’t show any errors either.

How exactly are you “importing” them?

Do this to clear stuff generally (not the cache but the metadata for items)

I did this essentially. I deleted over 150GB from the folders Plex sees, mainly one folder named Movies and one named TV Shows. Then I did a scan library. Cleared bundles, optimized, moved back in and it still went wonky. It was working fine for about 2 weeks until last night. Another example: Titans from 2018 imports as a show called Season 1 with a season under it called Season 2.

Honestly that sounds like you are adding each show to the library edit window. choosing “add folder” and selecting the show folder. Which is a very wrong way to add more things. It adding a show called “season 1”, especially makes me think this as it would see the season folder not the show folder.

To import movies, the only folder I select as a library is the Movies folder. For shows, the only folder I set as a library is TV Shows. The shows and seasons are numbered properly under that.

OK, will see if i can find someone better with the rPi install who may know more about the permissions and commands to clear the actual cache. ( but seems like a different issue if it is calling shows “season 1”)

The more I think about it, the more I think it may be multiple issues all happening at once. If it helps to diagnose, it was right after I removed Pi-Hole & Unbound from my device.

Here is an example. Only one is the MHA movie. It shows 3. I did Split and Fix Match for the other two. It recombined immediately into this. I took all of the files out and did the Plex dance again but still, this is where I am. I have no idea what to do.

I would put each movie into its own folder and make that folder name simple Moviename (year)

…/Movies/Little Bitches (2018)/Whatever the file is named.mkv

I will give that a try, thank you. Is Filebot free? Would I install it on my PC or the Pi?

I will give that a try and report back.

Still having issues. I completely re flashed my SD card with the newest version of Raspbian stretch too. Ran all the files through FileBot as you suggested.

Its also occurring on my TV Shows.

I tried to do that and renamed the movies. Still no luck. I even reflashed the SD card.

I have this exact same issue. Also on Raspberry Pi. Everything was working perfectly but I had not updated in a while so I ran an update and am now experiencing this.

I totally purged plex and installed from scratch but this issue persists. I separated 4 movies out to a separate folder for testing and have made 100% sure the naming convention on those files are correct but the issue persists. I have also played around with every Plex setting I can think of but am completely out of ideas.

I am not sure if you were addressing me or the OP but if it helps I added a screenshot to me post as requested. Thanks.

Here is mine. Just a basic single folder that contains all of the movies and such. I have found something that may contribute to part of the issue though. One of my movies, Wanted, kept displaying particularly strangely. I checked in the details of the file and, even though I renamed the title itself, Plex was pulling the title, comments, etc from the Detail section of the file. Once I cleared that and re-ran a scan that file was fixed…still did the combining other movies but the title and poster was fixed.

How do I revert to a previous version of Plex and stop it from auto-updating?

I was able to find a legal portable version of Filebot so I have been using that. Never knew this existed, so helpful.

Any ideas to mass remove the tags from movies and stuff?

Just checked and that is the one I used. I’ll give it a try to remove some of the tags and see how it goes.

Hm…well unfortunately that did not work. It combined 7 movies under Baby Driver. I checked to confirm and there were no tags on any of them, all were named properly too. Even when I split them up, it didn’t seem to work properly.

I did the Plex Tango and added a bunch of movies, after confirming they did not have tags, and the results were pretty much the same. Capture
Most went under A Quiet Place, for whatever reason. When I check the info on it, I get the below:

It looks like everything is named properly and should be normal. Trying to Split then Fix Match had mixed results. I did 3, 1 worked properly. The other two still say a Quiet Place despite all the info stating its not. If I do a Scan, it just recombines then without any reason.
