I have been unable to find the right approach to properly connect external subtitle files to video files on the PR4100. I have set up opensubtitles and can see that some are attached, but others are not. I have also downloaded separate .srt files and placed them in the folders with the video files, and I have tried them in a separate “subtitles” folder in the public area of the PR4100, neither works. I have set up the directory path in the local media assets agent to the .srt files in the “subtitles” folder as well, and that has not worked either. Does anyone know how to make this work? I have a daughter that is losing her hearing and I need to get subtitles working if at all possible. The other alternative is to generate new mp4 files with burned in subtitles or just use the mkv files, but if I can get external subtitle files to work that would be much better. Thank you in advance for any help.
A related question as well… Is there a good way to time-shift the subtitles to sync them with the video? If there were a timing shift option for subtitles that would be very helpful, but I have not found any way to do that. I’m not sure how to get at the .srt files that come from opensubtitles as part of the metadata either; I’m not sure how to find them in the plex metadata library.
Thanks. I’ve read through the generic content on subtitles, but for some reason the normal approach hasn’t worked. That is actually where I got the idea to create a separate folder and place the .srt files in with a path in the agent link. I tried both there and in the folder where the movies reside - neither worked. But, thank you for the feedback. I would imagine others have run into this same problem…
Try Sub-Zero instead of opensubtitles. Sub-Zero is listed in the official Plex Channel Directory. You can install it from there. There is also a supporting forum for it.
Thank you. That worked much better. The continued problem is fixing timing. Odd that since the movies are right from bluray or DVD that the subtitles aren’t synchronized in many cases. Does anyone know of a good way to set up a time shift for the subtitles? It looks like it is just a shift and not a random timing problem.
I found a tool that seems to work for shifting time. Subtitle Edit. If there are better tools any advice would be appreciated, but Moody_Blue, you really helped. The Sub-Zero agent works much, much better and allows me to track and manage the subtitle files. Much appreciated!
