Using the most recent server 1.31.3.
Collections turned on and minimum item# set to 2.
How do I get movies put into collections automatically?
Also, many collections with only 1 movie are still appearing.
Thanks for all help.
If collections were made in the past when “minimum items” was set to 1, those single-item collections will have to be manually deleted. Setting it to 2 and re-scanning the library will not do that for you.
To have Plex build collections, simply run the “Scan Library Files” command. Whether Plex can automatically build collections will depend on whether those movies are identified as part of a collection by the database (IMDB, TMDB) they are matched to.
Thanks. Are you saying I should not use the default Plex agent/scanner? I am using the default and right now, there are tons of movies not added to collections automatically. I know how to do it manually, but it would be incredibly helpful to have collections created AND movies placed/tagged for them automatically. I appreciate any suggestions.
No, you should use the default Plex agent/scanner. I’m afraid I don’t use Plex much for movies, so I can’t advise much beyond what I already have. Plex didn’t have any trouble making collections of the few movies (about 30) that I have (Harry Potter, for example).
Maybe one of the ninjas can jump in.
When you changed this setting did your force refreshed the metadata on the library so plex downloads the updated metadata, including collection information.
I think I did by clicking ‘RESCAN’ library. Is there a more thorough way of doing this?
Rescan will not automatically force update the metadata. Have a look at https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289306-scanning-vs-refreshing-a-library and the section Refreshing an Entire Library which includes the steps you need.
Thanks so much!
