I recently purchase the plex pass in full and downloaded it to my Windows-based computer. However, since the very moment I made my purchase, it did not work at all. For some reason, it does not recognize my movies from my hard drive. It used to have a red triangle error, as opposed to the green lock icon in the locations column now the name of my computer doesn’t show at all. Can someone help me with this?
Is your Plex Server running at all?
Does its tray icon show up?
Can you grab some log files and attach them here as a zip file?
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/
(scroll down to ‘Manually finding Log files’)
I can try Otto, one second. I would have to go into settings and turn on the logging capability. One sec.

I understand you don’t have access to your server.
Hence why I mentioned to scroll down and follow the procedure to ‘Manually finding Log files’
(P.S. moving this thread to the General forum)
okay, Otto, here is one of them, let me know if you need more of the log files, and where would my tray icon be in the windows app. The app opens up, and when I select cloud it will show some of the movies I uploaded to cloud, but as far as recognizing the media files on my computer and displaying them on plex and allowing them to play it does not do that. Before I purchased it. I used to have to download the server from the website, then remove the old server download every day just to watch it on my web browser. But this has been happening since I made the full purchase and downloaded the plex app to my hard drive.
Sorry, there is no log.

What? This sounds quite unusual.
Otto, here are one of the log files I received:**

Sorry, this log is unusable. It is only a fragment.
And it looks like it is not a server log, but one from the Windows app store app.
When you bought the Plex Pass, did you create a fresh plex.tv account?
Well, I’m not sure about a fresh plex.tv account, but I signed in using my username and password, I know that I am signed in whenever I use the windows download app, and the web browser server download. I just downloaded the server download from the website again, and the web browser plex media works fine. Consequently, the app works well too now, So am I suppose to go to the website and download the server everytime I want to use plex on my fire stick tv, and computer laptop. Or is it suppose to be a permanent connection?

Sorry, I am puzzled.
What makes you say that you have to download the Plex server everytime again and again?
After you install it, Plex server is supposed to stay on your machine.
If that doesn’t work, then something is interfering with it.
I just got word that you apparently have two plex accounts.
One with a facebook login and one regular one.
If you have trouble next time, I recommend you to
close your web browser and then reopen it.
Then make sure you are logged into the plex account which has the Plex Pass attached to it.
I should only have one plex account. I barely even use facebook. I probably was looking for an answer to the problem. So Where would I go on the site to download the server, because for months before purchasing the plex pass, I would have to go to the website, under downloads at the top options on the site Then I would move me down the page to select the option to the left that says downloads. Then it scrolls down and offers the “Windows download Server for Windows 7 SP1 or newer.” Am I suppose to choose download apps instead of downloads?
@“Travis A.” said:

You already found the download OK.
You already installed it OK.
There is no need to deinstall it again.
One thing: try to avoid the Plex client app from the Windows App store. It hasn’t been updated several months now.
Whenever you need to verify if the server is working or not, use your web browser
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288666-opening-plex-web-app/
I think he is confusing or doesn’t understand the difference between Plex Media Server, and a Plex Client. It looks like he believes they may be the same. That might help diagnose the issue.
What is the difference between the client and the plex media server?
Okay, Otto, that link is helping me. Before my purchase, I was using the Hosted Plex Web app. I just discovered today while talking with you where to download the app from the website. So What I have been trying to use and keep is the Local Plex Web App. That is what I thought it was supposed to be when I made the full purchase. It looks like the server for some reason was not useable after closing out of the Plex Webb App.
So now that I have the local Plex webb app, even without internet access, or re-downloading the server, I should be able to access my plex account and watch movies from the local Plex webb app, right?
@“Travis A.” said:

They are different things.
The download from the Microsoft app store is a client.
The app on the Firestick is a client.
What you load in your web browser is a client.
Only what you load above under Downloads, under
“1. Download Plex Media Server”
is the server.
The server (if it is running) only manifests itself by its tray icon
As soon as you see this tray icon, you can either
- right-click it and pick ‘Open Plex’
- or simply open your web browser and point it to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
I thought so too, It looks like I had the right Idea initially, but whenever I would close out of the web browser client I was unable to load the web browser client again. I would have to go back to the sight after removing the old server from my control panel uninstall section and reload the server. It would often times have updated to a new number. you know where it says: 1.11.0.4666-fc63598ba
December 28, 2017. I would see that this has changed sometimes. This is located under Windows 7 SP1 or newer. When I would select the download to download the server for windows. So if I were to reboot my computer the same server I have downloaded now should work just the same for me, right? And if there is an update on that windows download number would I have to reinstall the server, and get rid of the old one?
