i don t why plex media server dosen t start. so when i lunch plex it start but i can t get to the server beacause it tells me that i nedd to download plex media server but i already have it…
what can i do ??

Just to be clear:

  • you have a version of Plex Media Server installed and running in your home network (or even on the same machine)
  • you have installed Plex for Windows (version 1.6.3) but cannot access the Plex Media Server from that app

Some questions:

  1. Can you access Plex using a browser? e.g. 127.0.0.1:32400/web or localhost:32400/web if the server is running on the same machine – ansonsten [IP address of the server]:32400/web or app.plex.tv/desktop
  2. Which version of the Plex Media Server do you have installed?
  3. Is your Plex Media Server logged into the same Plex account that you used when running the Plex for Windows (client) app?

i ve got plex on my pc desktop and on my laptop but don t want use on my laptop because it too slow. i ve got the version 1.6.3 but i can t open plex media server

so … can you help me ??

this isn’t the server. thats a player

yes , i know beacause i can t open plex media server , so i can t read what version is it

yes , i know beacause i can t open plex media server , so i can t read what version is it…how can i read it ?

That was one of the questions asked above… can you open the web interface of the Plex Media Server using one of the below scenarios?

  1. the hosted version: https://app.plex.tv/desktop or http://app.plex.tv/desktop
  2. the local version installed on your PMS: [IP of the device running your PMS]:32400/web (either w/ http:// or https://)

If you cannot open it with option 2… can you verify it is running? (e.g. can you see the Plex icon in the Windows system tray
windows-systemtray-plex

i can open it by google but there is no icon on the left , and on internet i can t load any videos

What do you mean with “no item on the left”?
Do you have the Plex Media Server app installed on the same machine you’re currently working with and there’s no Plex icon in the system tray? Does it show if you manually start the Plex Media Server app (not Plex for Windows or Plex Media Player)?

Sorry for sounding like a broken record… just want to make sure we’re on the same page and I have a feeling we’re still looking at different things

don t worry , to sum up i m sure that i had istalled plex and plex media server , but i can start plex but not plex media server , in fact when i want to load something plex say to me that i need to download plex media server but i already have it

When you say “nothing happens” when opening Plex Media Server… do you get an error message of any kind? Running the Plex Media Server app is not supposed to open a window / UI… it’ll run in the background – with only the icon in the system tray showing it’s there.

If it’s dead on start… can you manually collect the server logs, zip them and attach that file here?

%LOCALAPPDATA% refers to a folder in your Windows users folder that’s usually hidden. Usually this is:

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\

Logs.zip (901.8 KB)

here it is

when i run it there s no icon on le left but if i go on tsk manager the is thisCattura
but actually is not tunning

is that the file right?

hmmm…
unless your system clock is approx. 6 weeks off, it seems you only run that server installation one time back on February 14 for approx. 3 hours (19:00-22:15).

Also… the log shows you tried installing Plex Media Server on D:\ drive. You shouldn’t do that – instead stick to the default installation paths / program folders.

  1. Uninstall Plex Media Server (use the native install/uninstall – no cleaner app)
  2. re-install it and after starting the installation exe, click on Options and verify that it points to C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\.
If it doesn’t, paste the correct path
  3. after completion… run the server again

If you want to avoid overloading the C:\ drive… we can later move the Plex Data folder. The program itself is approx. 150 MB – so that won’t break the C:\ drive for you

  • installation on D:\ is gone?
