I was having issues with metatags and I had to update the movie database site as a movie was wrong I had
i done the happy dance like 5 times to find all my mistakes but now the happy dance doesn’t work… when you move the files out and do scan library it keeps the library intacked
so i decided to edit the Plexmediaserver in unraid under appdata
i renamed
cache
Media
Mediadata
folders so plex wouldn’t see it… i re started plex server… and the damn server still sees all the movies etc… where the heck is iti being saved so i can force a full erase instead of deleting my folders (filters) in plex you can choose your movies tv shows…
where can i force the movies to delete when Happy Dance will not erase the movies after i named things properly and i want it to go out and get new information not say a movies orginal date is 1900 etc
Please note that the data from the online sources are cached by Plex so making a change at the source may not immediate reflect back in Plex. Better to wait 24hrs after making changes before refreshing Plex.
When PMS wants to gather data from the online source, like TheTVDB, Plex caches that info on our servers so TheTVDB doesn’t get hit with 1,000s of Plex users requesting the same info. This cache is released every so often so new info can be retrieved. You cannot force an update on Plex’s side, it happens automatically.

cuz when i do the happy dance… i do the scan library…
it wont erase anymore the movies from the folder… i found if i delete Plug-In Support\Database that cures it all…
and there is a 400 meg database file i was hoping it had 2 files
be the Database and 2. be the Folders (filters ) in plex left column… but if you delete it it deletes both…
as even though i renamed a file from test-die hard. to die hard… plex is keeping the database as test-die hard
and before when i moved the the movie collection to a different area… and when i hit Scan Library… it would instantly delete the database down to 0 movies…
but if it takes 24 hours after doing happy dance… to erase my database collection then ill wait…
as i didn’t wanna redue to my left side filters just to make the 400 meg database erase itself.
but since you said takes 24 hours to erase database then ill have to wait
as i was hoping it was still instantly but i guess after doing happy dance 5 times tweaking the database… it wont allow my local database to erase after 24 hours ….
now to kill time till plex deletes my local database backup database…
that or i have to just delete the file and re enter Each folder(filter) in plex… then i wont need to wait 24 hours cuz the happy dance didn’t work after 5th time
I’m confused now. I was referring to the metadata Plex obtains from the online sources. You are talking about the internal Plex database. That is not the cache I was referring to.
If you’ve created a library and then removed those files but Plex still shows them listed, that sounds like you cleared out the folder that contained those files. To Plex this will look the same as an unavailable drive, so Plex does not update your libraries in this case.
If you need to remove everything from a library, you need to delete the library in Plex, not remove the files. If you want to keep the empty library and remove all the video files, you need to keep at least 1 file in that folder. It can be any file, it doesn’t have to be a video. As long as 1 file in in the folder, Plex will not treat it as unavailable and remove all the entries from the database.
If your database file itself is getting large, run the command from Plex to “Optimize the database”. That should shrink it down.

no what i was saying orginally was
I was doing the happy dance
so what i did was
have 2 folders
1 movies
1 moviesTemplates
so templates were emplty just had Action, Adventure,Drama
as the folder names
so i renamed movies to moviesold
i renamed moviestemplates to movies
and then i ran Scan Library… it then erased all the movies it it used to
but after doing it 5th it wouldn’t do this anymore was i was tweaking it was not labeling things right…
that’s why i wanted a way that it did a force erased all the movies but kept the filterfolders
but ill try that… i placed a text file in each of the template
so
movies/
action/text.txt
adventure/text.txt
drama/text.txt
and ill see if it deletes it as my orginal question is the happy dance has stopped work anymore after doing it it wont erase the library like its supposed to

and the whole reason i trying to rescan all the metatags is
all my moves i ripped from my dvds or some vhs
the orginal date is 1900
or the orginal file and sort name is test-diehard even when i change the filename to diehard
when i refresh meta tag scan… it will not change tags from test-diehard to diedhard… and it wont change the 1900 to 1988 say. and add a summary
so i was trying to happy dance erase the entire database without erasing my filter folders on the left handside… and been having issues… with it not also doing the posters right… i posted in another topic it will get a poster from the video but when it sees sees the die hard poster but doesn’t change ,… but i trying the text file first
This is the part I’m confused on. What did you do for the 5th time? Your last steps just listed renaming your folders and scanning the library. Where are your files? You’re missing some steps.

i did the happy dance 4 times 5 time doing the entire procedure doing it would not erase all the thumbnails
as i have 2 folders
Movies (with all the movies_
moviestemplate ( just the file folder names)
so both folders movies and moviestemplate
have
action
adventure
drama
horror
sci fi
as some of the folders
it had worked before but still wasn’t erasing the meta tags really… it would erase all the thumbnails to none… but when i re scanned library after renaming again would still show mostly the orginal unmatched tags
now i did wha you mentioned… place a a file in each of my template foler
so i have
moviestemplate/action/ <text.txt>
moviestemplate/drama/ <text.txt>
moviestemplate/scifi/ <text.txt>
once i did that and then renamed “moviestemplate” to “movies”
and scanned it finally erased all the thumbnails
i did the empty trash then empty bundles
now i going to rename “oldmovies” back to “movies”
so then i can scan all the files
and i hoping this time… it will get the proper meta tags
as i was finding no summarys , no proper poster, no poper date
so i hoping this time will fix it… as i didn’t know i needed a file in each folder

Not sure what the happy dance is. If you are referring to the Plex Dance, that’s not it. The Plex Dance is for individual files. There is no “dance” that I’m aware of related to renaming folders.
To be clear, you do not need a file in each folder. You need at least 1 file to exist in the folder that your library points to.
So if you have a Movies library that points to some "\MoviesForPlex" folder, you need the file in that "\MoviesForPlex" folder. If you have subfolder in there, that’s fine, you don’t need a file in those, just in the main folder.
If your library points to multiple locations, you’ll need a file in each location. etc. A blank main folder will be treated by PMS as if it’s not there and no changes will happen.

there is no folder renaming i mention i did that
i said i have to Exact Folder Copies
MOVIES and MOVIE Templates
both have Folders ACTION, ADVENTURE, DRAMA, FANTASY, SCI FIle
Movies Folder has the movies in it
Movers Templates has no files just the folders i said
so i didn’t know i needed a file in each folder
so id manually Rename MOVIES folder to OLDMOVIES
then then manually Rename MOVIESTEMPLATE to MOVIES
then did the Plex dance
and it worked mostly…
but the 5 time doing this to try to erase the meta tags didn’t work
as each time it was getting the bad metatags bad posters and 1900 year
but like i mentioned i did what you said
i added a text.txt file to each of the Template Folder
and now im currently rescanning library and im hoping it doesn’t do the bad metatags
and file names
so hopefully this time it sees files have change cuz its getting frustrating i properly rename files but it still keeps old Tag info from old file names and it wouldn’t erase
but since my internet is slow… by the time its done scanning new tags etc… it will be tomorrow sometime lol… wish i had better internet
but i appreciate your help… i wouldn’t have figured out whats wrong till you said i need a file in the blank folders i have as i figure from say 100 files(movie folder) to 0 (template)files was good enough as it worked before…

do i need to set plex scan differently? so it doesn’t think a movie is completely different then it is… if not that’s ok as long as its not all of them lol… i can manually set it …
least this is better easier then putting my VHS older movies to computer… takes a lot longer then plex scanning lol
If you did the entire library, you might as well have just created a new library. Doing the Dance seems like a waste for this purpose. It’s really meant for individual files.
Would need to see your PMS logs to check what’s going on.
no took 2 min to make the blank template folder the entire database

so movies have the files in it… Template is just Folder names no files instead of having to move the files out of the folders and moving it back… all i did was rename the Template to movies
so it only takes 2 seconds compared to manually moving everything out…
but adding a text file into each of the folders under template works … and thank you for telling me that… so it fixed that issue
and ok for the logs do you need it now or wait till its all done?

i also now disabled any computers updating xbox cant update… just letting plex do its thing…

I’m glad it worked, but I’m still confused why you bothered with those steps. This would have removed everything from the library which would have been the same as deleting the library itself. So your steps could have been changed to
delete library
optimize database
create library
For the duplicate issue, I’ll need to see the portion of the log when it ran across those files. If you are redoing the entire library, that info may be gone. Grab the entire log package when it’s done and we’ll see whats there.
If you Plex Dance just those files and they come back as duplicates, the log from that attempt should clearly have the info I need.

well since i have a bunch of the virtual folders (filters) in Plex if i delete it id have to re add it
and since i have about 10 or so Virtual Folders for Movies and same for Tv Series it was easier to rename Movies Template to Movies so it erases all the movies from all the Filter Folders in Plex
but ok ill get it when its done probably be tommorow.. ill get you it.. here is my folders i have.. i also playing with just 1 folder to all the movies these were just easier for me
