How do you install a Plex server software manual update on a QNAP 682 QC i7 . Should be easy, downloaded file, but don’t see a manual update link or topic in dashboard.

  1. Download the 64 bit .qpkg file.
  2. App Center -> Install Manually -> Browse to the file name -> Install

but does this procedure update? not risk that it overwrites the old installation and deletes my settings and data?

You are correct:

  1. It updates the binary only
  2. It only creates a metadata directory if one does not already exist.

If you were to uninstall then your data would be lost. This is the nature of QNAP.
