For some reason this app is really obtuse to me. Simple things seem to require steps which are obfuscated. One simple thing I am trying to do is change what is pinned on the sidebar for me and a managed user. I looked into search engines but if I type pinned all I get is articles about changing the pin. If anyone can explain how to do this or point me to a resource, it will be sincerely appreciated.
This is for Plex Web
Thank you for your quick response but this just reinforces my frustration. This app is not intuitive at all. I click on your article and it takes me out of the forum. It references and “Edit” button but I see none and none is shown in the illustrations/pictures. There is no direction on how to get to it. Then I somehow cannot go back to the forum and had to start a new page to get to it. I have been using computers since 1980, am pretty technologically versed, have a AA, BA, MS and a doctorate but I still have a difficult time finding settings that should be easily available. I am having a tough time doing simple things. Please provide me with a usable resource that actually explains how to do things in a manner that is easy to digest or provide step by step instructions.
Thanks!
Hover your mouse over an item in the sidebar and three vertical dots will appear - select those and you have an Unpin option.
You can also scroll to the bottom of the pinned items and click on More and all items will be listed with a pin icon which you can use to unpin.
This assumes you are using the Web app. You never said which app you are using.
All of this can be found in the various help pages I linked to previously.
Edit can also be used in various apps depending on where you are.
My 10 year old son manages it so it isn’t hard.
Good luck.
Please note, I am not a Plex employee, just a user like yourself.
Thanks for trying to help. I am on the Plex app. The only options I see in “More” is the options I have listed not any other ones that I may want to explore. When I go to my son’s managed account, there is no options to add “Discover” and other items I have pinned on my account. You only referenced one article that gives instruction to access buttons that do not exist. That is not very helpful. I am starting to regret getting a plex pass. It is unbelievable that the only support you get is forum support. As another user recently posted, it is ineffective. It would be great if a plex rep would help.
There are many Plex apps.
I provided the Plex support articles and one specifically on pinning and unpinning sidebar items.
You can request a refund.
If you want to enable Discover and Plex media items (from the Support article page I provided)
Enable/Disable Access
- Open the web app when signed in to your Plex account.
- Under the user menu on the top right, choose Account.
- Select Online Media Sources under the account settings.
- Scroll down to the Discover section of the page and set the desired option for Discover.
Listen I really do appreciate you trying to help but what you offered above is not in the article you linked. I searched for it. Why Plex does not update their articles to give instructions that relate to their current version is negligent. If they say hit the “edit” button, it should be there.
Anyone can point to the index of dozens of articles and say the answer is in there, but that is not helpful as it is looking for a needle in a haystack. Neither is trying to portray something as facile when it is not. There are many answers available on google, that does not mean they are easy to find.
That being said, this does help explain why the options were not there, THANK YOU, but as the case with many things in Plex, I am now learning, things are set to default when it is not really helpful for them to be set that way. It also seems that you cannot allow enable the Discover Source or any of the Discover options for Managed Users. I was really hoping plex would allow me to integrate my home library with Netflix and Max so my son could browse all his options, but perhaps this was a pipe dream.
It is also disappointing that it seems Plex expects users to read for several hours to set their environment up when I was able to do this for Kodi and JRiver with barely needing to read anything at all.
Never mind - easier just to use the ignore function.
Enjoy.
which app. on what device? If you can take a screen shot it would probably help
