how to disable background art?

Hello, I have 3 kids that I play movies for using Plex. The problem is that Plex plays thumbnails from movies in the background if I don’t have a movie playing and sometimes there is an inappropriate image for youngsters. Is there a way to not have any images play in the background at all?

“Plex” is a lot of things.
Can you tell exactly how the specific Plex client you use is named?
From what you describe, I assume you are using a version of Plex Home Theater.

By default, PHT includes all those libraries into its slide shows, which are marked as ‘Include in Dashboard’ Edit your library(s) then go to the ‘Advanced’ tab to set this preference.

If the inappropriate images come from your normal movie library, to where your kids also have access, then you indeed have no other choice than to disable the slide show completely.
In PHT , go to Settings - Appearance - Skin - Settings - Disable all Slideshow

btw. you should consider to update to OpenPHT or PMP

The client I use (normally) is an app on my phone that I use in conjunction with Google Chromecast.
I checked on the App and Server under settings and there is no “Appearance” setting.

Also, if I disable ‘Include in Dashboard’ everything related to that library disappears (Recently played, on deck, etc…).
I’m only worried about actual images from the movies cycling on the background when browsing the library.

Sorry, no idea about the Chromecast. What type of phone do you have? Apple or Android?

I think it is a good idea to separate ‘family-friendly’ movies and the ‘grown-up’ stuff into separate libraries. That way you can safely browse a library, even when the kids watch.
Or to use the ‘managed users’ feature to restrict movies to certain ‘content ratings’. In this case the kids could then even do the browsing themselves.

Is there no way to just turn the background off completely? This seems like it should be a very easy thing to do!
I’m not going to go through my 500+ movies and fix all the incorrect metadata. I don’t have that kind of time.

You would think that there would be a way to do it from the SERVER, not the client.

Why?? Only a very tiny minority would have and interest is disabling background art. There are many many features that are wanted by many ore people that Plex has not yet implemented.

If Plex really uses a “priority” system of any sort then this would have to be way way down the list. After all There is only a finite amount of time Plex has available for development and the can’t implement everything we (the users) want.

Thank you for being unhelpful, at best.
