How to fix issue with Plex Media Server not starting since recent firmware upgrade

Upgraded firmware on QNAP TS-451 and now cannot access Plex Media Server. Looked at some old discussions but nothing worked that was suggested. I just updated on 05/25/18. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time in years that I’ve had an issue.

Please provide additional information?

  1. Which QNAP firmware version?
  2. What does the Resource Monitor (showing prociesses) show you? Is Plex running?

And adding to @ChuckPA here:

Maybe the pinned FAQ named qnap-faq-read-me-first question 20?

Read it here

And I updated today and have the same problem.

Firmware: 4.3.4.0597

Plex does not appear to be running under resources, although it does show enabled and started in the events log. I did upgrade to the 64 bit version, have not tried deleting the cache files yet

Phil,
I’ve had some luck with this but nothing guaranteed. If this doesn’t get a process launch, we will need more drastic.

Stop PMS.
Restart QTS
Re-install PMS on top of the existing (anything else will erase your existing metadata)
Now see if you can access it.

If not, ssh in or use the Plex share if you have it, to get a .tar.gz of the logs

stupid question, but how do I make the share folder visible? I’ve got the file manager set to show hidden files but can’t see anything in the Qnap file station, or do I just go in via puTTY and command line? I’m not an SSH power user, but I can probably struggle through…

Install this:

FIXED! In the meantime, I was doing the stop/reboot/reinstall loop again and a newer version of PMS popped up this morning 5102 vs 5023 last night. Installed this update and all seems to be good again.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Dane22, I’ll create the share against future problems…

In the same boat. Plex is running under resources, but I cannot find the server.
