I recently bought an Apple TV 4 so I could download the Plex app and play my media through there. The Apple TV 4 says that an update is needed. In my Plex settings under Web > General it says I am up to date (Version 2.4.0) but under Server > General it says “Version 0.9.12.0 ! An update is available. Please install manually.”
How do i go about installing the manual update? I am running a Plex docker off of unRAID. Do I have to wait for the author to submit an updated template? Or is there a way for me to update the docker myself?
I’ve downloaded the most recent Plex update from the website but I am unsure on how to apply that to the docker
There are several different Docker containers for Plex that behaves slightly different but I suggest you stop the container and start it again to see if it updates.
I have tried stopping and starting the container and that made no difference. I also told unRAID itself to check my dockers for updates and it always says it is up to date. The current plex docker I am using is from needo. I only have one other template repository that contains another plex docker which is from binhex. I’ve tried installing the docker from binhex to see if that made any difference but that one fails to install. I have yet to try and find other plex containers
Unless you haven’t done it, install the Community Applications plugin. There you will find all Docker containers available.
The needo Docker should install the latest Plex pass version when you restart the Docker container. I have switched over from the needo Docker to linuxserver Docker since that is actively maintained.
Where are you going to install the Community Applications plugin? I am not having much luck installing it. Nor am I having much luck installing any differnt docker repositories to install a different version of plex
That link did not work for me. Says page cannot be displayed. I was able to find a link for the plugin though. However, it fails to install. I attached a picture of the failure. Could this be because I am running unRAID 6?
It has been so long since I have had to deal with setting up dockers or anything and I am really struggling to remember how to do it all. I have found several docker repositories with different plex dockers included but I can’t seem to get unRAID to use them. I’ve pasted the repository links in unRAID under Docker in the template repository box and clicked save. But they never show up in the list of templates when trying to create a new container. I’ve even removed some of the repository links I had from when I initially built my server but the templates are still available to add when creating a new container even though I removed the repository link
I will look at upgrading my unRAID version when I am able to. That could certainly fix some issues
I did manage to fix some problems, but now have others. I figured out why I was unable to install any plugins or add any docker repository links. About a month and a half ago i gave my server a static IP and this caused my problems to start with plex (the biggest problem was that no metadata was being downloaded). I was unable to figure out why giving my server a static IP would affect plex so much but i realized today it is because when I set the static IP it wiped my DNS settings within unRAID. I stopped my array > went to settings > network settings > and set DNS1 to the same IP as my gateway > and started my array again.
Once I made this change things started working again. I was able to install the Community Applications plugin and add docker template repository links and have the templates actually download (and in theory I think this would have fixed the Plex metadata download problem and updating problem), BUT before i realized this DNS problem I was adding and removing my Plex container trying to figure stuff out and now I can’t get it back.
I had been able to add and remove the Plex container several times until suddenly I couldn’t. Now whenever I try to install any docker I receive this error:
And the Community Applications plugin won’t display any containers. If I click on any of the tabs or search for something it just constantly says it is searching but nothing every comes up
If I click dismiss warning it just simply goes away and does nothing more. If I leave that page and go back to it the warning reappears. My version of unraid is out of date so I am currently working on updating it to see if that makes a difference
My attempt to upgrade to the latest version of unRAID did not go well. I was able to do the upgrade but ran into all sorts of problems with the registration key. I have always had the trial version of unraid (so far I have not needed anything else) so when I upgraded I requested another trial key. I got the email with the URL key link to install and that all went fine, but when I went to start my array again it wouldn’t let me. It said ‘too many devices attached. Please consider upgrading your registration key’ (even though all I have is a cache drive, parity drive, and one data drive.) I went back to the registration page and it said my trial was expired but it wouldn’t let me request an extension because my license key is still current. I decided to go ahead and buy unraid plus, i was going to need it eventually anyway, so I filled out all the order form pages and submitted my order but then received an error that my transaction could not be processed due to an incorrect street addresss and zip code (even though they were correct) but I was still charged $90 and have received no email with a new registration key.
So at the moment I can go no where with the latest version of unRAID. I setup another flash drive with my old 6.0 beta 15 again. So I am hoping I can at least get this version up and running while I am trying to figure our my license key fiasco
Modify message
I have always used the needo docker container. I have also tried the limetech container as well as other random ones. None of them work. I get the same error no matter which docker I try and install
I’m one of the core maintainers (i normally go by IronicBadger) of the linuxserver docker containers. You should find these work well for your needs, especially on unRAID. Several of our devs use unRAID personally so it gets first class support. Try this:
Thank you for providing me with that information. However, I cannot get a linuxserver/plex template to download when I add the link to my repository. Shouldn’t there be an .xml file template somewhere that unRAID would use to install the docker?
I don’t think it would really matter anyway. My problem isn’t with the dockers themselves, it is with unRAID. No matter which docker I try to install unRAID fails to install it everytime (see comments above for an attached picture of the error)
I also cannot get my Community Applications plugin to work. I got it installed but it won’t display any of the containers available (I also have a picture of this in the comments above). I am being told this is because my version of unRAID is out of date. I attempted to update to the latest version last night but I can’t go any farther on it because I am having problems obtaining a license key for it (also see comments above)
So basically I am stuck. As of right now I am unable to upgrade my version of unRAID and I can’t get my current version to download any dockers, so I can’t reinstall plex and at least be able to use my server while I am figuring out the license problem for the newest version of unRAID
I got everything fixed and up and running. I was able to upgrade to unRAID 6.1.6 by using a different flash drive (so a different flash GUID was used) to get a trail license key.
With the upgrade everything with unRAID is now working. My Community Applications plugin is working and I can now download dockers without issue.
Since that is all working now, so is my Plex. It now auto-updated to the most current version for the web app and for the server. So it is now downloading metadata, works with my Apple TV 4, and since I fixed the DNS issue, it is also downloading metadata again.
