How to name "Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture"

I spent the last 30 minutes trying to get Plex to recognize this and can’t figure out how I’m suppose to name it. I have a folder in my TV shows directory named “Ghost in the Shell Arise - Alternative Architecture”. Inside there is a folder, “Season 1”. Inside there are 5 files, for each of the 5 “Border” releases: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=seasonall&id=293491&lid=7 . They are all named in this form at this point:

Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E01 - Ghost Pain

I don’t even remember what name permutations I’ve tried at this point. Anyway, how can I get Plex to recognize this? Thanks!

In the link you provided, they are shown as “Specials”

If you go to http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid=293491&seasonid=617026&lid=7
You can see the Specials season for the series and the episode numbers, so maybe try this using a Season 00 or Specials folder
TV Library
…\ Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture
… \ … \ Season 00 (or Specials)
… \ … \ … Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E02 - Ghost Pain
… \ … \ … Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E03 - Ghost Whispers
… \ … \ … etc, etc

More info on naming specials here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220707-Naming-TV-Show-Specials-

Since the files were named incorrectly originally, you may have to perform the Plex Dance on them to get them to show properly https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/908454/#Comment_908454

Hey thanks, that naming scheme worked!

late answer… (Because i’m struggling with the same now)
The naming is messed up because it isn’t the GITS Arise AA tv-seires. The ‘show’ is a 10-episode mashed up thing from the OrignalVideoAnimation( OVA)
Here is the listing in correct order:
ARISE - OVA Films, Alternative Architecture, and The NEW Movie (2013-15):

  1. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE) - Border 01 OVA - Ghost Pain (2013)
  2. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE) - Border 02 OVA - Ghost Whispers (2013)
  3. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE) - Border 03 OVA - Ghost Tears (2014)
  4. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE) - Border 04 OVA - Ghost Stands Alone (2014)
  5. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE - A.A) - Pyrophoric Cult, Part 1 of 2 (2015)
  6. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE - A.A) - Pyrophoric Cult, Part 2 of 2 (2015)
  7. Ghost in the Shell (ARISE) - The NEW Movie (2015)

Only the two A.A titles are from the tv show.

Only way to get it to show in a somewhat orderly fashion in Plex is the Specials format. But that messes with how you watch the show (uh movies).

Can one get Plex to make a “one-movie listing” for all the OVAs in “one movie”?

This show is in constant flux on TheTVDB it seems.

Right now, if your episodes are not divided into 2 files, you must add them as ‘specials’:

anime /
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture /
      Specials /
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - s00e01 - GITS New Movie.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E02 - Ghost Pain.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E03 - Ghost Whispers.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E04 - Ghost Tears.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S00E05 - Ghost Stands Alone.ext

Hi,

Sadly it is not working. Can someone tell me how to name the 6 files of Ghost in the Shell Arise (WITHOUT) the movie? 4 Borders and 2 of Pyrophoric Cult.

I’ve been doing so since about an hour or so… not really happy with plex at all. It is really really frustrating:

  • Not intuitive
  • Can’t get PLEX to ignore a Folder and subfolder to let me handle my media.
  • Scraper is crap, It’s simply not doing what it should do. I tried naming it like they are named on TVDB. (Kodi is doing fine here).
  • End user satisfaction is not good. How can you expect people to be happy if they only see 5 out of 6 episodes?
  • Specials and Season00 naming is bad.

This means you have the “borders” in one file, but the “pyrophoric cult” in 2 files.
This is a mish-mash. There is no 100% satisfactory solution to this.
My proposal below.

This must be added into a library of the type ‘TV Shows’.
The library must point to the folder, anime. Not one folder level above, nor below!

anime /
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture /
      Season 01 /
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E01 - Ghost Stands Alone.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E03 - Ghost Pain.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E05 - Ghost Whispers.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E07 - Ghost Tears.ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E09 - Pyrophoric Cult (1).ext
Ghost in the Shell Arise Alternative Architecture - S01E10 - Pyrophoric Cult (2).ext

After the metadata has been loaded, edit the titles of the episodes 1 – 7 and remove the (1) from them.

Simply ignore the jumps in the episode numbers.

Handling of tv shows in Plex in general:

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext (‘- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

tvdb is acting like nazis and constantly messes with show and ruining CORRECT namings.

How i get Arise to work: (This is the correct order. TVDB have again changed it)

Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E01 - Ghost in the Shell_ Arise - Border_1 Ghost Pain.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E02 - Ghost in the Shell_ Arise - Border.2 Ghost Whispers.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E03 - Ghost in the Shell_ Arise - Border.3 Ghost Tears.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E04 - Ghost in the Shell_ Arise - Border.4 Ghost Stands Alone.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E05 - Pyrophoric Cult.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E06 - Pyrophoric Cult.mkv
Ghost in the Shell - Arise - Alternative Architecture - S00E07 - Ghost in the Shell New Movie.mkv

Can’t be.

Like i wrote: This is the correct order. TVDB have again changed it :expressionless:
TVDB dont care about correct orders of shows, they care about how THEY want it.

Here is the Correct order:

  • Ghost in the Shell: Arise OVA series (set in 2027). It’s a prequel telling the origin story of Section 9
    • Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture is a recompilation for television of Ghost in the Shell: Arise . April 5, 2015 - June 14, 2015 (AKA "the Specials)
  • Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie is a movie set after Ghost in the Shell: Arise that is a continuation of the plot of the Pyrophoric Cult episode. The original movie’s plot follows directly after this movie. June 20, 2015

Doesn’t look like that to me. Your episode numbering above doesn’t correspond with either Season 00, nor Season 01 of what is currently listed on TheTVDB.
I have checked anonymously as well as logged-in.
