How to name multi-file movies?

Hey Guys,

Simple question. I wish to add The Ten commandments to my PLEX library but it is 2 parts

What naming convention would i use?

I tried video redo to merge the 2 files together but it crashes towards the end.

Thanks !

Let’s try not to mix up too many topics… that original thread has already too many off-topic discussions

As for how to name your multi-file movie:
You can follow the instructions in this support article (see section „ Movies Split Across Multiple Files“).

is it a movie, or a tv mini series?

for movies you can use

  • moviename (year)-part1
  • moviename (year)-part2

then plex will combine and play them seemlessly (but the should be matching file types and codecs.

for series, it would be episode format

  • seriesname (year) - s01e01 - episodename
  • seriesname (year) - s01e02 - episodename

You can try this instead: [HowTo]: joining multi-part movies files with MKVtoolnix GUI

That’s actually a good catch
I wasn’t aware there’s…

  • so many of them
  • also tv shows

Maybe I was just ignorant.

@jasny50_aol_com : for that movie or show you’ll definitely want to include the release year / year it first aired to make sure Plex matches the right one!

Thank you!!!

Thank you…there is an intermission for 5 minutes woukd that program allow mecto cut that out?

I assume you were answering me and not @tom80H

Yes, you can also use MKVtoolnixGUI to split files at specific time stamps. But since it will only cut at “keyframes”, you might not be able to hit the specific timestamps with absolute precision. But it should be good enough if you don’t mind 1 or 2 seconds difference.

Thanks guys…you rock!
