How do I remove the magically-appearing Plex Cloud selection from my PMS? I have absolutely NO interest and do NOT want my family selecting it. And how did it get on my system? I have not appled recent updates. Unacceptable! My PMS box is NOT some appliance that Plex can push junk to like it’s a cell phone!
At some point you may have, in fact probably did, apply for the Plex Cloud Beta. After that once you get accepted that “Plex Cloud server” icon will appear under servers but it requires setting up before it could actually become usable.
Since they abandoned Amazon as a storage solution many folks, myself included, have asked, more than once, to be removed form the beta so we will not see that icon.
The ability to remove a user from the beta seems to be beyond the abilities of the Plex developers so we are all still in the beta and we all see the icon.
Of course that icon does no harm and cannot do any unless you actually take the steps to set it up and, even then the “harm” would be quite minimal except for potential bandwidth usage if you happen to have unencrypted content already set up on a provider and someone sets up a library pointed at it.
The icon is an irritant and I find it VERY hard to believe that removing a beta tester is so hard (It should take no more than two clicks from a user) but it is not truly very important.
Ha ha. I like the idea that it’s ok if it’s a cell phone but all other platforms are right out!
But seriously, I’m guessing you’re mad about the cell phone too but have just accepted it. Changes forced on the user can be annoying. Absolutely agree.
I’m 99.8% sure I did not apply for the Beta Cloud. If I did, I didn’t mean to. I have the Plex Cloud selection too, which I find annoying, but have quickly learned to ignore it. Just like the “DVR Beta” in the settings for the server. The chances of either being used are pretty slim in my case. But never say never…

What does a “cell phone” have to do with this? It is not even a forced change to the system. It is just adding the ability to make a change. It is really cosmetic and hidden from everyone that have it 99% of the time.
I think Plex should allow it to be removed but, in the meantime, it is easy to ignore.
Adding the ability to do something is not the same as adding intrusive or invasive functionality or programming. It is not even the same as changing cosmetics or the user interface of a device.
@Elijah_Baley My statement was in reference to the original where @rockney8588 said:

Well yes, as a matter of fact, I do have that same issue with my cell phone. And Windows 10 is much the same - which is why I run Linux. The cell phone … well I disable and uninstall everything that is disagreeable and I don’t use it for Internet, banking, or anything else that requires any personal info beyond a basic (and mostly empty) Google account.
I don’t want my grandchildren, who do use Plex, to start exploring the Cloud crap. And the cloud selection KEEPS COMING BACK! Why is Plex co pushing it so hard … they getting kickbacks??
Personally I think cloud is for those who can’t build or maintain their own tech - and generally a monumentally bad idea. Who in their right mind is going to put copyrighted material on a hackable site that you have to pay for month to month? Cloud, cloud, cloud - trendy crap that is just that. And I wonder if anyone has even looked at those cloud service’s Terms of Service? Can’t imagine streaming off them is what they had in mind.
The reason for Plex to be pushing “Plex Cloud” (or at least one reason) is that if everyone ran “Plex Cloud” then Plex would be in complete control of the server side setup and it would vastly reduce the need for so much complicated tech support and free time for other functions.
And it would make these forums a LOT less fun.
Being a 41-year software and hardware engineer I have never pinged Plex support. I have used the forums some.
So their “profile” for users is not entirely accurate. There are those of us who know what we’re doing.
In fact myself and a friend are in the process of writing TWO Plex-related packages to help cover things that Plex lacks.
One, PlexNotes, is a NodeJS baby server and application that will sit beside a PMS server and allow that server’s users to comment on and discuss movies, enter “problem” tickets when something isn’t right (subtitles, etc), and will be very light weight and easy to install and use.
The other is a “bunch of files”-to-“another-bunch-of-files” synchronization tool that will handle multiple volumes on both sides and does not expect them to be organized the same way.
Both are Open Source and will be free.

Looking forward to these!
Will the “bunch of files” app allow uploading to the cloud? /s. ![]()
But seriously they both sound great.
As a matter of fact, yes. It will support cloud synchronization too.
My son and I built a pair of i5 component (shelf) living room PCs that run Plex and we act as backup for each other. So we get together periodically and synch-up. But with multiple drives of different sizes a mess-to-mess monger is needed. So we’re writing VolMonge. Have just lost too many hard drives over the years.
When these things are ready for real users we will announce it in these forums. PlexNotes is about 50% done. VolMonge is just starting.
I still want that Cloud selection to GO AWAY when it is declined. What? Does Plex make money if someone is stupid enough to actually put their content on a public cloud??? GET RID of that thing … it is misleading and a deliberate TRAP to get people to use it. This kind of CRAP is getting worse in this software and will not be tolerated. Exactly what are you thinking with repeatedly pushing it in to peoples faces??? Money, money, money??? Or just what? My custom Plex server is NOT your toy, appliance, or profit center … get rid of this crap!
