How to set up remote access

I would like to use remote access but cannot get it to work.

Do I have to have a dedicated ip address with my isp?

This is way over my head but I’m including a screen shot of what Plex tells me when I try to enable Remote Access.

My server is on my pc running windows 10.

Did you setup a port forward on your router?

You do not need a dedicated IP from your ISP but will need to setup a port forward.

No, I don’t know how to do that. I know how to find the settings but don’t know what I need to put in.

what is the make and model of your router?

post what you are looking at and I can help you fill it in

Thank you so much!
I have Netgear WNR3500L v2

https://kb.netgear.com/24290/How-do-I-add-a-custom-port-forwarding-service-on-my-Nighthawk-router

Select “Add custom service”
name it Plex
External start is 50000 based on your screenshot
External end is also 50000
Internal start is 32400
Internal end is 32400
Internal IP is 192.168.1.12

If it asks for TCP or UDP select both.

One setup test on canyouseeme.org and make sure it shows success for port 50000

Ok…I followed your instructions.

What do I put in canyouseeme.org?

I should say what ip do I put

So, if I did it right (I think I did), it didn’t work. What now?

Thank you so much for all of your help so far!

Yeah that looks right…
who is your ISP? Nextlink?

Yes, Nextlink

I called Nextlink and they said the ip changes constantly. It is $10/mo for a static ip but I don’t want to do this that bad. LOL You said I don’t need a dedicated ip from my isp. So is there something else I can do?

Yeah you don’t need to pay for a static IP address.
So your Netgear has that public IP on it?

Idk exactly what I need to look for on the Netgear?

Try this…

Should show your WAN or internet IP which should match the IP you have above.

No, it does not match.

Welp I guess this made a liar out of me…
You are in a CGNAT situation based on that IP on your device.
Your only option is to pay for a static IP from your ISP

Well, I was hoping you were right. :frowning:
