I can't 'configure' Plex for my WD My Cloud Home. A message appears on Plex website saying 'I must be lost'

When I click ‘configure’ for Plex on my My Cloud Home device, this image appears:

I am running service version 1.16.3.1402 of Plex from My Cloud Home (MCH).
I have tried disabling and enabling Plex for MCH, the MCH is found in the browser after launching Plex on Chrome (not the Windows App) but is subsequently lost within 5 minutes.
I understand the most recent update version to MCH (above) only allows the Windows App to find the server which previously has been successful. However, since this page has appeared after selecting ‘configure’ on MCH; my Windows App, and TV are no longer able to find the MCH.
I have just tried the IP address - and that currently will not find the MCH (which since the last update is not unusual - it was always found on the Windows APP though).
I have tried rebooting the MCH, which has had no effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - my 2 yerar old needs to have their daily fix of Cars!

Thanks

Mike

Looks like the link they’ve put behind the configure button is broken…
Have you tried simply using the default link (https://app.plex.tv/desktop)? Instead of going through the MyCloud interface you could simply bookmark it

Hi,

The default link app.plex.tv/desktop doesn’t find my MCH.
I’d hoped the configure button did more than just take me to the default desktop page. Namely because when I’ve used it before my windows app has subsequently been able to find my MCH.
If it is simply a link to the desktop Plex, then why can’t it find my MCH on the windows app? I’ve been using it for over a year no worries. Nothing has changed with my hardware. Thanks.

have you tried https://[MCH IP address]:32400/web instead?

I tried using the IP address, and it is stuck on ‘looking for server’, never actually finding one.
Since the update WD have confirmed that the desktop browsers will not detect it (see attached image) so the ‘looking for server’ is not uncommon for MCH users.

Since then I have always use the configure button to get my windows app to find the server. But as this is no longer working, I can’t get the MCH server found on Plex for any length of time.

All ideas welcome!!

When they speak of the “Windows App”, they don’t refer to the browser version but either Plex Media Player or the newer Plex for Windows.

All the “configure” button does is opening https://app.plex.tv/desktop in the browser.

Yup,

But the fact the configure button doesn’t work, appears to be the only related thing to the fact that Plex won’t find my MCH. When it used to work my MCH worked fine. Literally pressed configure then opened the Windows app and it had the MCH. Now it doesn’t find it.
It could just be a red herring that I’m looking too much into. So any other suggestions to help Plex find MCH are most welcome!

What version of the Plex Media Server have you installed on your WD MyCloud?
The latest stable version is 1.18.2

I’m running 1.16.3.1402 - if the attached image is the correct version.

How do I update it?

Thanks

on the My Cloud Home you depend on WD providing an update version.

From https://support.plex.tv/articles/115003310834-western-digital-my-cloud-home/ :

How do I update Plex Media Server versions?

Unlike a regular Plex Media Server you might run on a computer or NAS device, you can’t arbitrarily update the server version. Instead, new Plex Media Server updates will be delivered by Western Digital in the control panel of the My Cloud Home.

That makes sense because it’s all part of the MCH package.
But wouldn’t everybody’s Plex on MCH be playing up, not just mine, if it was the Plex Media Server? It’s not updated since July, so surely someone would have said something/found a work around by now?

I get the exact same issue. MCH is working fine (that alone is amazing).
It took me hours to enable Plex. But it is only visible on my TV and Wifi-Radio but neither on the ios-App nor on my Mac (browser or Desktop-App) These apps are just showing me “News” Tidal and so on, but no word of a Server/MCH. When I open “Config” on my MCH I get the same picture that [mikestephensjersey_gmail_com] gets.
I had a MCH with plex before. I remeber that plex alwas was the most unreliable software I have ever used, Online, offline, online offline without a cause.

Hello,
Anyone find a solution to this?
I am also facing the same issue.
Unable to configure the Plex client.
Plex is working fine on my TV but i am not able to configure it using computer.
Shows me the same message -
You must be lost.
This page doesn’t exist.

I think this happens when we restart the WD My cloud Home
Any solutions to this please???

Hi,

Unfortunately not.
None of the solutions suggested here have worked, although I do thank everyone for their help!
WD have, to be fair, tried loads of suggestions - none of which have been successful for me.
I’m at a stage now where WD don’t know what the issue is so the only thing I can think is to wait for WD to update the Plex app version from 1.16.3.1402 to a more current app and hopefully that will resolve it.
Other than that, I can’t help.
Good luck, and if you find anything that works, please let me know! :+1:

something that worked for me: I clicked disable, then clicked enable. then i got the follow through message in regards to setting up the folder. hope this helps!

Hi all, I had exactly the same issue then
[mikestephensjersey_gmail_com] and I tried finally the solution from [RobLives4Love] . Disabling Plex on “do more” at home.mycloud.com worked. Then I enabled Plex a few minutes later again, and I got directly linked to the Plex configuration. Now the plex server finds my my cloud home device. Thanks

Hi,
Yeah I tried that, and then that allows you to set up your Plex configuration again. It would work until I refreshed the browser and then it would not connect. 7 times I tried this and it kept losing the thing!
I did a speed to test for my internet and its download speed was 46MBS. So I bought a new router, TP link Archer c7, and my download speed it now 256MBS. Now my connection to my Plex media server on MCH is stable… so it must have been hardware (router) issue! My old router must have slowly been dying and it reached a point where it could no longer sustain the Plex Media Server connection.
No idea why the ‘you must be lost’ still appears, but at least when I disable and then enable my Plex on MCH, Plex works again on all my devices.
Horray!
I hope this helps, and thanks for all your suggestions!
Mike
