All I’m trying to do is be able to stream an .MKV movie on my PC to my firestick-equipped TV through my WiFi. I’ve installed Plex on my PC and on my firestick and then linked the app to the Plex media server. I’m not seeing any mention of any media on my PC, except the little plus sign which says “Your media”. When I click on that, all I get is the screen which says to install the Plex media server, which I have already done. Very frustrating! According to the documentation, there should have been a setup wizard the first time I ran the software, but that never happened. What am I missing here?
You can find setup instructions on-line like this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200264746-quick-start-step-by-step-guides/
Once the server is installed you need to add a library and point to where your media is. The server will scan the files and add the media to the library. Make sure you follow the media file naming convention so that the server can collect the correct the correct meta data for the media. See here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ and https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
This sounds as if you already had Plex installed on that machine before.
Perform the thorough uninstallation, then install again: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/
