I have been trying to track down why sometimes Plex / Plexamp / Plex web will fail to play certain Tidal songs.
When playing from Plex web I would see errors warning me to stop playback on another device, however there was no other device.
I started testing which tracks played from Plex and Tidal when I noticed something.
When browsing to “Seven Lions” in Plex i can see ‘Ophelia Volume 2’ which cannot play.
I looked in Tidal and saw the album doesn’t exist in Tidal. I then looked up Seven Lion’s discog, so as to purchase Ophelia Volume 2 on qobuz, bandcamp, etc and couldn’t find it.
Then I confirmed on discogs that Ophelia Volume 2 actually wasn’t yet released so there would be no way to play it.
I dont know if there is a way to detect this on Plex’s side, but it would be cool to show in the UI of Plex web / Plex mobile / Plexamp that the album was found in Tidal’s api but wasn’t yet released.
Not exactly the same, but I’m going to mention it here because it falls in the larger “disconnect between Tidal’s library and what Plex sees in Tidal’s library”: Plex sometimes does not see albums. The most recent example was the new Eminem, which I was able to see and add to my Plex library, only to find out while listening it was the clean version. After explicitly searching, it was the only version I could find on Tidal in Plex (searched in Plex app, Plexamp, and the web app).
However, I could immediately open the Tidal app, find the explicit version, add it to My Tidal, then flip back to the Plex app and add it from the My Tidal tab.
Search again. You should see all versions that are available in TIDAL, it’s just not as clean of a list. You can see the Parental Advisory label on the album art cover.
