Having the same problem over the past 2 weeks of new releases:
I’m using PMS Version 1.19.4.2935
Plex web - windows10 Version 4.38.2
I have Plex pass & Tidal premium account linked properly & generally speaking, the Tidal content plays fine. Just having a problem recently seeing the new releases show up in Plex.

Here are 3 examples:

This one at least has 1 song from the album…?

I was just alerted of this thread. Please be aware that some tracks/albums/artists available directly from Tidal are not available to 3rd parties such as Plex. This is a Tidal limitation. These are often, but not always, new releases which may be exclusive to Tidal, which can also include being exclusive to Tidal apps. There are also other tracks/albums/artists that just don’t appear to Plex. We are investigating ways to let users know of these situations directly when using Plex clients, but we do not currently have a solution.

Oke thank you for the information.

@anon18523487: Thanks for the info, but wanted to ask a follow up question: Is this a relatively new issue?

… some tracks/albums/artists available directly from Tidal are not available to 3rd parties such as Plex. This is a Tidal limitation. These are often, but not always, new releases which may be exclusive to Tidal, which can also include being exclusive to Tidal apps. There are also other tracks/albums/artists that just don’t appear to Plex.

It seems that this is happening mostly on releases in the past few weeks: All the releases mentioned above are from 7/17 & 7/24. I’ve got several more instances on the 7/31 release date listed below. All of them are available on Spotify, so they’re not exclusive to Tidal. It’s possible I’m into some obscure music, but I’m hitting about 50% of the albums & singles I want to add to my library are coming up blank. Should I expect this track record?

These are blank on the Plex web app:
Dillon Chase: Levitating Low (feat. Hilgy) [single 7/31/20]
Claude Deuce: Always There [single 7/31/20]
Legin: In This Moment [EP 7/31/20]

Just pulled a few for reference, but it just seems like this is a new thing. (But, the MC Lars album mentioned in the earlier post is now showing up in full). Maybe I should just wait another week or two?

Thanks for your time & patience.

The track do not have to be exclusive to Tidal, those are just the common ones. Plex will show all tracks that are made available to us. In some cases, we even show tracks that shouldn’t be available and these will not play. Also, some content might be restricted due to regions as well. What is available to Plex comes directly from Tidal and we have no control.

Is there any way to verify the reason an album or song isn’t playing?

See here:

Seems odd that they would be region restricted, but the albums that do play are from one record label and the ones that don’t play from another, so I suppose it could be something along those lines.

Not really. We’d have to contact Tidal to find out. Any limitations are set directly by Tidal.

i could care less about new releases, but the tabs which say /my tidal/ and /my tidal playlists/ are completely blank. surely my hundreds or thousands of songs in my favorites and playlists aren’t all barred from plex? i’ve check that plex knows i have a linked subscription and indeed i have the offer where i pay for both plex and tidal under one invoice.

that link that says ā€˜learn more’ is a dead end loop, btw.

thanks, /guy

Following up on my earlier post. I updated to PMS Version 1.20.1.325 tonight & re-checked some titles above.

Masked Intruder now shows track 1,7,12,13,14, & 15

Rebecca St James now shows tracks 1,2 (of 7)

MC Lars: The Bible - LP
All tracks show up

Dillon Chase: Levitating Low - single track now shows up

I understand Tidal can set some limitations for 3rd parties, but it would be a total shock to me that they limit random tracks on the album, especially non-platinum sellers. I mean, I get a Taylor Swift hold back window, or exclusives to Tidal, but … just wanted to raise my hand once more & confirm we think this is Tidal locking down access and not a Plex bug.

Another example of a newer release:

There should be 7 tracks here on Tidal proper, but Plex only shows 2 & 5.

Also wanted to highlight this particular case, because Plex shows the single ā€œHallelujah even hereā€ as accessible under singles, and this track appears on the full EP (in Tidal proper), but cannot be seen in Plex on the EP. It’s frustrating to see the single available by itself, but Plex can’t see it on the album, even though the track is available to Plex as a single. Just bizzare behavior, right?

I wish I knew more how the process works so I could ask better questions. Does Plex run a weekly check for new content on the Tidal database that it misses on the initial load & pulls in new tracks along the way? (i.e. If I check back next month, will all the Rebecca St. James tracks eventually be available in Plex IF this wasn’t a intentional omission directed by Tidal?)

@anon18523487 Thanks again for all you do. If you could confirm one or more of these examples above is showing up as everyone at Tidal & Plex expect, I’d be appreciative, but a little surprised.

I actually don’t have a way to confirm if these should work except to try. I get the same results as you.

Note that singles and albums are totally different. Singles are not a subset of the album, they are their own thing. Just because a single is available, doesn’t make it available on the album.

Thanks for the quick & kind reply, as always.

I understand that singles are a different animal & aren’t a subset of the album. Roger that. I was making a case in this particular situation for the problem not being related to Tidal’s policy to exclude certain songs from 3rd parties. (i.e. - doesn’t make sense for Tidal to keep 1 song on the album away from 3rd parties if they allow the single of that song to be played).

And in the same example, the issue why there are missing songs can’t be a region issue or Tidal-exclusive issue.

Just making sure I understood your posts from July 26 & Aug 4. I don’t think this example (Lydia Laird EP) can be explained by any Tidal limitation. And tracks slowly creep back onto the album as available at a later date? Weird!

From a novice user perspective, it feels like a Plex issue. Could a developer look at this example specifically & confirm this is by intentional design? On release date Aug 7: Plex can see the cover art for the Lydia EP, but no tracks. Then 3 weeks later, tracks 2 & 5 appear and can be played in Plex, but the rest of the tracks are not available. I think you’re saying ā€œyes, this was Tidal’s specific intention because this was all the content that was made available to Plex.ā€ Correct?

Thanks again for reading this long & sincere post.

I don’t know if it was intentional, but Plex will display all songs made available to us. We do not have any specific blocks. Tidal may have regional blocks and those will get enforced. Why only some tracks from an album show up :man_shrugging:.

I suppose this adds to the frustration a bit.

Missing songs or albums can easily be chalked up to licensing limitations, but it’s annoying to have an album available to Plex and then find out it won’t play. I’ve now also had a few instances of albums that played days before suddenly now no longer playing.

I reached out to TIDAL support about this, but they just said it’s Plex’s issue to fix – go figure…

I checked on the Lydia EP again today, and now 3 songs are listed. Last week, it only had 2. (see pic above). Now we can hear tracks 1,2,& 5.

I guess I’ll keep checking each week & maybe the rest of the EP will be available soon. Maybe Sony could verify if Tidal is restricting these tracks from their 3rd parties. (I’ll chase that, too, just for fun.). But I can’t imagine a reason. I’ll be all out shocked if it’s not a Plex bug. (but please hear my respect for the Plex ninjas doing their thing… it’s really an amazing feature to integrate the Tidal library into mine. Just asking about the random outliers that result in missing a few tracks along the way).

The issue with that specific EP is odd for sure. Not exactly being a compilation, you would think it would be all of nothing.

Here’s one I discovered this morning:

Ed Sheeran’s album x (multiply) is available on TIDAL and in Plex, but it’s the deluxe version of the album and should contain 16 tracks, but only 15 show in Plex. Track 16, ā€œI See Fire,ā€ is absent in Plex.

If we head over to MusicBrainz and trust the information, we can see that 15/16 tracks have Warner Music UK Ltd. as the copyright holder. ā€œI See Fireā€ shows the copyright holder as Warner Bros. Entertainment (the song was from one of the Hobbit film soundtracks, so this makes sense).

This I can totally see being a licensing issue and then it would make sense to have it not visible in Plex if it wouldn’t be playable.

However, then there are other examples of albums that are fully available and visible in Plex, but just won’t play.

Oh, totally. I’m right there with you!

BINGO!
I checked back today & all the tracks are there & playable. Sweet !!

So whatever the cause & resolution, in this particular case, I guess the message is ā€œbe patient.ā€ Thanks to the Tidal and/or Plex ninjas that got everything in sync.

@Noah0504: Thanks for posting a clear example of a licensing issue above. I’ll watch out for those in the future, and try to rule that out before I bring up issues like this.

I think the plex apps have troubles with new releases. Now again on album Cindy Blackman, the whole album is not visible on plex but they are on tidal.

Ugh. More albums that suddenly won’t play.

I’ve played both of these albums from TIDAL in Plex before, but now they just given me a network error. They appear to be from the same label as other Kings of Leon albums that do play just fine.
