I want to use Plex and MediaMonkey to synch playlists - without using iTunes

I have Sonos to play music at home and can use MediaMonkey to manage the music - and, it will play through the Sonos.

I have Plex on my iPhone.

I don’t want to have to manually keep playlists in synch between MediaMonkey and Plex. I’d like to use one of them as the “master” and then be able to have that one update the other.

I don’t want iTunes involved - they created massive duplication in my music library (which I used MediaMonkey to fix) and it flushed more than half my 600 song playlist - fortunately I had documented what was in it and so was able to recreate it. Now i’m just on the point of wanting to manage the playlist in one place. Please advise . . .

Won’t Sonos play directly off of Plex server? I must be missing something.

Allen, thanks for the quick response.

Much is written about playing Plex from Sonos, but I didn’t know about the other way round. Thanks to your comment, I found a page on how to Play Sonos from Plex: So, I linked Plex and the Sonos (by using Plex via browser - doing it via the Plex app on my windows computer didn’t work).

Once linked, I tried to play music - and every time I get this message: Playback Error: An error occurred trying to play this item.

Wonderful :frowning:

Under the covers Plex is just a web server. I am saddened that many players can’t just play files served up by the Plex web server.

The lack of standardization on this industry is driving me crazy. Vendors are all trying to get monthly subscriptions and they don’t Ll play well together.

Plex, IMHO, is trying to do too much. It is a bummer this didn’t work. Good lick.

What did you do? I don’t think you can play to Sonos devices from Plex Web.

You can do this from the Plex iOS app. In the app, at the top right there is a cast icon. Click on that. At the bottom, there should show up an option to link to a Sonos account. You can then cast your playlists directly to your Sonos speakers.

I’m about to drop Plex and I don’t have a solution.

I did link Sonos and Plex, but when I play from Plex, it accesses the Sonos speaker and then stops - gives the “Playback error.” If I go to Sonos and click on Plex, it doesn’t see my library.

I was willing to give up on having a master playlist and maintain separate Playlists on Plex and Sonos. However, out of the first 30 songs I put on the Plex playlist, 20 of them wouldn’t play. I think it’s because they are WMA files. I’ve seen some potential fixes, but they seem beyond my technical prowess to attempt.

If someone has an alternative to Plex they can suggest, or a fix a mere mortal could implement, I’d be grateful. I’ve been chasing a solution on this intermittently for over a year.

That may be. There are many variations of WMA files so it’s possible you have a variation that Sonos don’t like. Does it play in the regular Plex app?

If you can provide the XML info for one of these files, then get me the ios log from the Plex app when trying to play it to your Sonos.
