If you pause Live TV, where you end up is anyone's guess (bad timeshifting)

If everyone feels this should go here, please let me know and I’ll lock this thread and post there.

Scenario: I’m watching Live TV - not recording Live TV, just watching it. Today’s example was the Vikings at the Giants (yes, I know the score  ). I paused Live TV for approximately 2 minutes. When I un-paused it, the show resumed at the exact point I paused it. No problem. When I hit the “advance 30 seconds” button, I was taken to an unknown time in the game, but clearly in the past. I didn’t think to look at the game clock. I hit the “rewind 10 seconds” button a few times and then it took me to close to where I had paused.

This isn’t the first time this has happened so I was scared to try to advance forward again. I watched the remainder of the game about 2 minutes behind live TV. Near the end of the game, I hit the Advance button to take me to live TV, as in, real-time. I was taken all the way back to the halftime show. Even though the slider showed both the right time (about 4:05 PM EST) and no buffer (I was supposedly at live TV), it was playing the halftime show that occurred about an hour and a half ago.

This sort of defeats the purpose of being able to pause live TV. Is there something misconfigured on my end? Could it possibly be my hardware (Hauppauge Quad-WinTV)? I’m happy to post logs if that will help.

I am experiencing issues just like this with my Plex on Roku. If I pause or rewind and then resume I start exactly where I paused or stopped the rewind but from that point forward Plex thinks that point is now live and I cannot advance without exiting the show and then coming back into the show. Please advise.

I consistently experience weird things around timeshifting too. I’m recording Monday Night Football but I’ve started watching it from the beginning. If I click 30 second skip, the picture flashes black for a fraction of a second like it’s skipping but it doesn’t actually move. (That is the behavior in Chrome on my desktop). It works ok on my Android phone. On my Roku 2, I can skip ahead but after watching/skipping/fast-forwarding for a while, I end up wildly mis-aligned between the actual progress through the show and what the progress bar shows.

I’m getting weird issues on three devices as well. I have tried it on a Fire TV stick, Android TV, and Android Phone. This seems to point to a server side issue. Anyone find a solution?
