Is there any way whatsoever I can specifically have Plex pull episode data from IMDB? For context, the show in question is Steven Universe and the way IMDB lists the episodes is closest to the intended watch order. I tried using TVDB’s Absolute sorting order, but since it’s listed as a single season, it will only pull metadata for the first season and every other season’s episodes are blank. I’ve also tried using match hinting and listing the IMDB ID, but it doesn’t seem to do anything, and I’d really like to avoid adding all the metadata manually if I possibly can.
Sorry we don’t get the IMDB order. It is why it is not an option in the Episode Ordering menu for shows. IMDB number is only used for search for confirming the right show as a whole is chosen and the summary is sometimes used. This is also as what is used for in match hinting.
Out side of the single season is the absolute order on TheTVDB in the correct “intended watch order”? TVDB DVD order seemed as close but admittedly I did not look though every episode. but it was in seasons at least
The DVD order is almost correct, as far as I can tell, it just has one of the Season 1 episodes listed out of order. I’d like for the show to be listed as accurately as possible (I’m referencing the wiki’s episode guide which is endorsed by one of the directors) and I’m not sure how to manually change the episode numbers in the properties so I don’t have to go in and rename a chunk of them.
edit the show itself and under the advanced tab there is a option for “Episode Ordering” which you can set it to TVDB (DVD)
other that that you can use the match hinting to say X episode should be scanned in as Y episode instead so it uses the hint instead of the file name to detemine which it is.
So I’m trying to use match hinting alongside using the DVD order, but I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or have the syntax incorrect because the episodes are still labelled incorrectly. I’ve tried rescanning my library, refreshing metadata, and unmatching/re-matching the show and it doesn’t seem to want to update. Here’s how I have my plexmatch file currently set up (I’m using individual matching because I wasn’t sure how to accurately use pattern matching):
Title: Steven Universe
Year: 2013
Season: 1
ep: 46: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E46 - Open Book.mkv
ep: 47: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E47 - Shirt Club.mkv
ep: 48: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E48 - Say Uncle.mkv
ep: 49: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E49 - Story for Steven.mkv
ep: 50: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E50 - The Message.mkv
ep: 51: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E51 - Political Power.mkv
ep: 52: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E52 - The Return.mkv
ep: 53: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E53 - Jailbreak.mkv
Edit: I should probably also show how the order currently looks in my library while I have the plexmatch file set up like this.
oh I’m sorry. I had a bit of a brain fart in what you were trying to do and what match hinting is capable of.
episode 48 will always be matched to Story for Steven because that is what the agent has from TVDB.
if you did this
ep: 53: Steven Universe (2013) - S01E48 - Say Uncle.mkv then that 48 file would be matched as episode 53 which is what metadata has for Say Uncle. Which I realize now is not what you trying to make happen since that would not correct the playback order. Apologies for the confusion and my brain fart
The only thing you really can do it edit those 8 episodes metadata manually after scanning them in. ( make sure fields stay locked with the orange lock icon. )
You’re alright! I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do it manually, but it’s going to bother me if I don’t correct it. Just to double check: will I have to use the plexmatch file to change their episode numbers, and then go in and manually edit their metadata, or am I fine to not bother with the match hinting? I never saw an option to edit what episode it’s listed as, but I could’ve missed it.
Edit: Okay, the episode numbers do actually follow what the files are listed as! I was just confused because of the incorrect metadata. Speaking of metadata, will correcting the match hinting also correct which posters it pulls?
