Inaccurate genre tagging with Plex Movie Agent

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081

When using the Plex Movie Agent (not legacy) I keep getting inaccurate genre tags. For example The Titanic (1997) on IMDB has the genres “Drama, Romance” but the Plex Movie Agent tags them as “Drama, Romance, Action, Adventure”. This really messes up my collections based on genres - having The Titanic in the Adventure genre with all the Marvel movies seems really strange.

If I change the agent to use the older Movie Database agent I get correct genres… why does the Plex Movie Agent get the genres wrong? From where is it pulling that information? Can we configure which source is used to get metadata?

Looks like that’s coming from TheTVDB: Titanic - TheTVDB.com

Action does seem a bit strange here, Adventure makes a bit more sense for this film but I understand why you wouldn’t want either. I’ll discuss this with the team and see if we can come up with a better solution here.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think it would be optimal to be able to select which site/agent is used for metadata scraping if possible :slight_smile:

@drzoidberg33 any word on this?

We have an internal ticket open for this but it’s not a high priority task currently. I don’t have any more info for you than that, sorry.

If it really bugs you then you can just remove the offending genre tag locally.

Using the older Movie scanner works good enough :slight_smile:
