I’ve been noticing that genre classifications on my library are pretty poor. THings come up as comedy that are anything but comedic. My collection is loaded with small, independent films, but according to the metadata, I only have 3.
I saw another post that suggested that the older Movie Database has more accurate genres, but presumably there are other advantages to choosing the newer Plex Movie agent.
Is there any way to choose the agent for genre specifically? Has no one else run into this ? I’d love to be able to filter my collection on a given evening based on what I’m in the mood for, but the data are really useless.
Really not the point, is it? I have a large collection of commercial movies in my server library. I configured the agents using the newer Plex Movie Agent. I find the classifications of genre to be very poor and I’m asking for an alternative way to retrieve those data other than totally ditching the recommended agent.
How is giving you specific examples of movies helpful?
I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t think it was relevant to the question(s) asked.
And there is no other agent choice now. If your request boils down to “I don’t like the genre choices by the external aggregators which Plex uses” they will have to be adjusted there. Good luck arguing with TheTVDB and The Movie Database.
Examples would still help. I believe most of the genre information comes from TMDB but some might also come from IMDB. Plex don’t create metadata themselves but rather they scrap it from the other online sources.
Also… Once a library is configured to use the new modern agent its not recommended to switch it to the older legacy ones. Doing so can (will) break the library due to the the code not being compatible between the two sets of agent/scanners. So if you really wanted to switch you’d need to recreate the library and set it up then.
Okay, I’ll just live with it as it is then. I think those sources have a much broader view of what is funny than I do. First world problems. Thanks for the replies.
I feel your pain. The genre filter doesn’t work to well for stuff like action. Almost half my movies in my library are action so its somewhat pointless…
I have a lot of foreign films I think of as more like drama, tragedy, gut wrenching psychological trauma - amazing how many of those are apparently comedic.
