Some files displaying in the incorrect aspect ratio.

Hey guys,

I've been using the PS4 Plex app for about a month now and I love it except for one major issue. Some 16:9 videos are being squeezed down to a 4:3 ratio. I guess it has something to do with anamorphic widescreen failing to expand as they should. The videos that have this issue display just fine in the web player. Are there any settings in Plex I can alter to rectify this problem? If not, are the devs at least aware of this issue and working to fix it in the next update?

Thanks for your time.

Bump.

Yeah. I get that too. Pretty much in every case its a PAL DVD based video that gets fucked up.

Thanks for replying. One of the files I'm having this issue with is indeed sourced from a PAL DVD, another however, is a WEBrip. Do the Plex staff frequent this forum? Are they aware of this issue? This is a pretty major bug as it renders some videos unwatchable.

Yes, they do frequent the forum. And I'm pretty sure they are aware of the issue.

Cool, thanks for the info. Hope they fix it soon then. Is there an ETA on the next update?

Same problem, almost all my DVD rips are displaying 4:3 however Chromecast, dlna, any other works fine just not this app for ps3. Should have an option to change aspect ratio too not just Audio like all apps.

Still early days, be good to have that fixed along with pin for kids to restrict…

Hi everyone. We've opened an issue with Sony, bug is in there camp.

Anamorphic videos aren't playing correctly when we transcode or Direct Stream them. Anamorphic videos which we direct play (MP4 with AAC audio <= 8Mbps) handle the aspect ratio just fine.

There's no ETA from Sony at this time. Sorry!

I am having this issue as well! Very frustrating. We had a weird framerate issue on the PS4 as well that we didn't experience on the web or Roku apps. We've moved our Roku into the livingroom because at this point the PS4 app is not at all functional.

Sony just announced an system update for this thursday (v2.50), any chance they have implemented the changed need to make Plex work properly?

If they're as good at including everything in the patch notes as they are at keeping PSN online or deploying stable patches then maybe we will get lucky tomorrow and we will get a stealth fix!

FW 2.50 is out today, and I can report that the issues are still occurring. No changes to video playback whatsoever.

I have the same issue, with ripped DVD files, on my PS3 & PS4 devices, the new preview on the Roku works fine though.

Remux with mkvtoolnix and make sure the video has the correct aspect ratio flags.

We're getting a bit of a run around getting this fix from Sony. I wish the fix was in 2.50 but the platform running Plex is packaged separately of the firmware. Still waiting on a fix but getting darn tired of waiting.

I tried previously to hack around the wonky behavior. This time I'm going to hack harder. Will dig into it next week.

Thanks for trying workarounds. FWIW, I'm experiencing the issue as well.
