After following advice and splitting Movies & TV Shows into different folders, Plex has done a great job at identifying both the TV Shows and Movies.
However, even after a file rename (note no file or folder was called anything like Absolutely Fabulous), even after a rescan it still appears to be identifying Franklin & Bash (and more misc one off episodes) as being Ab Fab.
It has picked up something as being Law & Order, appeared to be 30 Rock but seems to have identified 30 Rock correctly now, and I get an error trying to playback whatever it thinks is Law & order.
On the alerts pages, as well as processing other shows, etc. It does seem fixated on my ‘UK House of Cards’ folder (keeps scanning it, processing it, downloading metadata, etc) and then back to scanning it.
There, it has picked up House of Cards, and To Play the King correctly, but it thinks The Final Cut is S3 of the US House of Cards instead of the UK House of Cards.
How exactly have you organized / named those tv-shows?
With tv-shows, following Plex’ naming schema is even more important than with movies.
Schema
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library in Plex
Show Name <- as listed on TheTVDb.com
Season XX
Show Name - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
Show Name - sXXeYY.ext <- without the optional stuff
Where .ext is the file extension, XX is the season and YY the episode number.
If a show is a reboot or remake, it’s important to stick with the naming as shown on TheTVDb.com.
Example
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library in Plex
30 Rock
Season 01
30 Rock - s01e01 - Pilot.ext
30 Rock - s01e02 - The Aftermath.ext
30 Rock - s01e03.ext
...
30 Rock - s01e21.ext
Franklin & Bash
Season 01
Franklin & Bash - s01e01 - Pilot.ext
Franklin & Bash - s01e02 - She Came Upstairs to Kill Me.ext
Franklin & Bash - s01e03.ext
...
Franklin & Bash - s01e10.ext
House of Cards (US)
Season 01
House of Cards (US) - s01e01.ext
House of Cards (US) - s01e02.ext
...
House of Cards (US) - s01e13.ext
Where .ext is the file extension.
Notice the (US) suffix on “House of Cards”. This is necessary as a plain “House of Cards” will refer to the original UK show from 1990 (US version, UK version)
If a show has already been identified (mismatched), you can perform a so called Plex Dance to make Plex forget the cached information. Alternatively you should be able to perform a Fix Match, manually searching and correcting the match.
Naming could be improved admittedly, though FileBot did pick up most of the shows correctly (as Plex did) but did also pick up Franklin & Bash correctly.
Whilst not precisely following Plex’s naming standards, the renaming did help with for Example Brittas Empire, instead of showing all episodes as one Season, it has now split it into the different seasons after it has finished rescanning.
Though playing a couple of files from “Law & Order” it played a NCIS LA episode and a Burn Notice episode, which Plex appears to have correctly picked up both NCIS LA & Burn Notice.
You might have some luck with shows following some foreign (to Plex) naming schema… until you’re running out of luck.
If you want to ensure Plex properly matching your shows, you should stick to its naming schema.
Plex is in particular not overly fond of adding folder levels to what it’s expecting (e.g. your Star Trek collection folder).
