Indirect play fix

How can I fix indirect playback issues with remote access? When connecting via remote access I usually get all green for a few seconds but then loose the internet portion under remote access. ports are forwarded within my router but when I check with a online port checking site such as Canyouseemenow.org it says it can’t reach that port. Windows firewall has also been configured to allow access. I’m not sure what else to try. I have read the plex support for remote access but still no luck resolving the issue.

Maybe some clarification first… based on how the remote access status indicator works, it’ll show a green status until it’s completed its accessibility check. In your case that’s causing it to show a green status until it figures out it’s not properly connected.

Have you already checked if your router actually gets a publicly routable IPv4 address from your ISP? More and more ISPs will only give their customers IPv6 or private IPv4 addresses.

tom80H,

Yes, I am getting a IPv4 address from my ISP. The router is a KAON CG2200. I can’t find any UPnP options under the router settings to try that which is why I went the port forwarding route (which I think is the best method anyways) but was hoping it was available to help troubleshoot. I’ve tried using a different external port numbers directed to the 32400 local port needed by plex.

Is it a publicly routable IPv4 address or a private network address?

tom80H,

Sorry I’m not the best when it comes to this stuff. Can you explain more about "publicly routable IPv4 address and how i can check that ?

I

What’s the 1st two segments of your router’s public IP address?
e.g. 172.95.xxx.xxx or 192.168.xxx.xxx?

190.56 are the first segments according to plex

cable modem ip address of 10.132.xx.xxx

Looks like your ISP has placed you behind a CGNAT. This means they’re organizing their network like a “home network”… which saves them from requiring tons of rare public IPv4 addresses — and prevents you from forwarding traffic from „the outside“ into your own network.

You could contact them and ask if they’re capable/willing to give your router a „publicly routable IPv4 address“. It doesn’t need to be a static ip address (which they might prefer to offer for a fee).
