Indirect server connection only allows up to 320p 0,7mbps on 4k and 1080p movies

Hi! I’m pretty new to Plex and not a technical genius so I hope my problem isn’t that unusual. I have all my media on an internal hardrive at my office (PC) and the quality is perfect there. But when I’m home and watching on my macbook and Apple TV (indirect connection)
there’s a limit to 320p 0,7mbps. On my phone it says “Video quality limited: a direct connection to the server is not available”. I have good internet connection at both places and my PC have a fast i7 processor, shouldn’t be a problem there.

THANKS!

There is an issue with Plex at their end, it’s been posted about multiple times today in the Plex Pass Forum… Indirect will relay the stream through Plex’s servers, so they limit the throughout, hence the drop in quality…

That’s an understatement, even reddit is talking about it. The posts keep piling up…

They are aware of the issue, looks like they might have found the issue. Hang tight…

So no answer on this? Why is this limit set? Have the same issue.

This is an old thread. The issue you are having is probably a different one.

Why is this limit set?

Because the traffic from your server to your client is funneled through a datacenter, over an internet connection. Hence the name ‘Relay’ connection
https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/
And traffic volume costs money. Therefore the bandwidth is restricted.

You are better off investigating why you only have an ‘indirect’ connection.
