Intermittent Connection Issues with Local Plex Server on Plex Web

With the recent server updates (around 2–3 versions ago), I’ve been experiencing an issue when accessing https://app.plex.tv using Microsoft Edge. Occasionally, my libraries show exclamation marks and become inaccessible. Restarting or rebooting the server/browser does not help, and the issue usually resolves itself hours or even days later without any changes to my server or network.

What’s strange is that I can always access the server normally through the Plex iOS app. This problem only started appearing in recent months — I never encountered it before.

The web browser which you used to write in this forum, is logged into a wholly different plex.tv user account, than your Plex server is.

Is that the reason for this intermittent connection issue?

It could be. Clients usually only get access to a server if they are logged into an account which is either

  • the same account that the server uses
  • is an account with which the server administrator/owner has explicitly shared the media on their server

Any other Plex users don’t get access to your server.

You should definitely compare which user account is used by your server, and which is logged in on your various Plex clients.

Alternatively, try and use a different web browser. Chrome or Firefox for instance.
