Intermittent connectivity issue between Pi $ PlexMediaServer

I have been pulling my hair out regarding an intermittent problem I have been having with video playback on my Rasplex Pi. I have the following setup:

  • Windows 7 64 bit machine running PLex Media Server V1.2.22
  • 512 Raspberry Pi running V0.3.1 with a Class 10 16gb micro SD card (also tried an 8GB class 10 SD card I bought with the Pi)
  • HDMI connection to Samsung TV. TV remote controls the Rasplex.
  • Dlink DSL-2750U router
  • Connection to both the server and the Pi is via 100Mb Ethernet
  • I have hard coded the IP addresses in the router for both devices
  • I have eliminated power as an issue as I specially bought a 5.25v 1.5 amp charger. I constantly test 5.03v over TP1 and TP2

When it doesnt work I can scroll through the menues. The video menue's are slightly slower than when it has worked in the past. I can select a movie and bring up the information page that shows the fanart and cover art. When I select play one of two things happen:

  1. Working appears on the bottom right corner for about a minute then dissapears and I can start scrolling around again
  2. Working appears on the bottom right corner and about a minute later I get an error message stating that "one or more files failed to play, please check the log files for details"

I have a WD Live that I connect in exactly the same way as the Pi and I can play any movie over UPnP connecting to the Plex Media Server.

I have in the past rebooted everything (PC, Pi and Router) and then it starts working properly again for a day or so. However this to is an intermittent fix.

I suspect that it is a network configuration issue but not sure where to look. I have have been able to Putty onto the Pi but don't know how to extract the log files.

Any suggestions? I really love Plex on the Pi when it is working.

ssh into your RP

Username: plexuser

password: rasplex

copy and past this into putty

  • grep -i error /storage/.plexht/temp/plexhometheater.log * use plexhometheater.old.log if plex crashed*<(go to pastebin.com and copy the results of the above to a log)Then copy paste the below and do the same.

tail -n40/storage/.plexht/temp/plexhometheater.old.log # give us the last 40 lines of logs, more the better.

Also try the experimental build and see if that fixes your issues.http://sourceforge.net/projects/rasplex/files/experimental/

Flash this build with the win32 disk imager. Flash instructions on Rasplex.com
