Internet is down=Plex Down, Plex.TV down=Plex Down, Internet Down=Smart TV apps down etc.

My Family is getting tired of our LOCAL server being in accessible when the internet is down… I am already considering replacing clients that ALSO have internet dependency of their own like the Vizio SmartTV app but I think the plex team has to resolve some form of cached access / offline mode to smooth over Premium features like Plex Home so my kids can continue to watch their content.

I don’t even care if only specific more robust clients are the only ones that can support it, but everything goes offline if the SERVICE or the internet are having issues. Turning AUTH off on the local network is NOT a solution even for the clients that would still work… It defeats everything that HOMEs featureset offers in terms of access control.

PLEASE consider making the plex client / local server experience more resilient to service outages!

I totally agree with this. While I understand web authentication, having Plex go down because Plex.tv is not available (for whatever reason) is a huge strike against why I use Plex at all - to be able to watch my media still even if the internet is down or unreliable.

A couple weeks ago, Plex.tv had an outage, and I could no longer tell my clients to sync anything. This was the night before my wife and kids went on a road trip. It was extremely frustrating to be unable to sync media because a website that had nothing to do with the process wasn’t available.

The local clients should all cache the authentication to the point that they can function for a long period of time without reaching out to anything online.

2017 is here! Just take an 3G USB-modem or higher and use it as backup internet connection. is that problem?

I assume the previous reply is a joke.

I agree, watching local content on the same network as the Plex server should work without the authentication servers functioning. Otherwise a major use-case disappears.

I’ve to agree as well. Just weird to have a local plex down just beacuse internet access is down…

or… just a thought here, perhaps you need a better service provider? Just trying to think out of the box.

Some of us don’t have a choice!

The plex auth servers have gone down for multipule hours more than once in the last few months. That particular issue has nothing to do with my internet service.

How does that help if the Plex authentication service is down (as it was a few days ago) - OR if you have a hurricane come through and it takes down your very reliable internet service and it will take 3 or 4 days for the ISP to fix it?

If your internet service is spotchy then I think asking another service to change how their product works is ridiculous - especially in a day and age when almost all products are internet enabled. I have had Plex for coming up on 5 years and I have never not been able to use my service, even when my internet was down, or on any of these authentication issues (so its not as wide spread as everyone wants us to believe).

Now, in the case of a hurricane coming through I guess you would have to set priorities.

My 2 cents, instead of making threads like this why not create one in the feature request and allow others to vote on it. Having a high voted feature would surely gain more movement than individual posts. Just doing a search there I see there are at least 3 random threads already about this, none of which have a lot of votes. If you want a change in features why not use the section of this board that gives you a voice?

Oh wait Winter is coming …

How in the world is my internet “spotchy” (whatever you think “spotchy” means - you use that word, I do not think it means what you think it means, I know what it means both the real definition and the slang definition) if the Plex authentication service is down?
In the case if a hurricane coming?? I said “if you have a hurricane come through” - as in it already passed through. Do you know how to comprehend what you read?

And I have been through 32 hurricanes in the time I have lived i my current home, averaging just over 1 per year (some years had none, since one year we had 3 and other years we have had two) I am pretty sure I know how to set my priorities when a hurricane is bearing down on my family and home, but thanks for your … not sure what you think you showed there.

Finally, this line made me laugh - a lot - “Having a high voted feature would surely gain more movement than individual posts”. You are either very, very new or are just being a troll. The feature request was a way for Plex to get people to shut up. They couldn’t care less how many people vote for a feature request, they do whatever they feel like doing. A prime example is “news”. Go look at the feature requests list that MovieFanPlex maintains at the top of the sub-forum. What a joke that so many highly voted requests are there but they spent resources on “News” and a stupid privacy policy that drove people away.
(Oh, and you quoted me and it appears you replied to me - you do realize I did not start the thread, right? Or is that more of your reading comprehension issues?)
