Intro Detect Job never completes

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2831
Player Version#: N/A

For some reason the into dectection activity never completes on my server. I can kick it off for any season of a show, and in the logs I can see to making progress, then just stop. It’ll stop at the same percentage complete regardless of the number times I kick off the job (the percentage it reaches changes depening on the show, but for a specific show it’ll alway progress the same amount and then stop).

Checking the epidose XML data later I can see that it hasn’t written and intro markers, but there are also no obvious error messages in my logs.

Please turn off verbose logging, recreate and provide new logs.

Sorry about that, new logs here. I’ve also updated to the lastest version of PMS (1.19.3.2843), but it’s made no difference.

Check the Covnersion tab in PMS and see if it is paused. If you don’t have any activity you won’t be able to tell. Add a sync or media optimize job and come back to this page. If you see that it is paused, go ahead and resume it, delete the job, then analyze the season again.

Just added a sync job, and it’s processing fine (nothing was paused). I have also got a Detecting Intros job running, that’s been stuck at 57%, same job that I kicked off for the logs and hasn’t progressed since I uploaded the logs here.

Ok, thanks for checking. Let me get some help on this. Not sure what’s going on, but that % is a bit misleading. The routine goes through multiple steps and it doesn’t count correctly. I see it trying in your log but something is stopping it.

Can you provide me the xml for Babylon 5 S05E01.

Thanks for looking into this. XML Here 13477.zip (1.5 KB)

This tip worked like a dream for me! Thanks!

Quick update on this, after many hours the intro detections has now managed to progress to 76.8%. I’ll see what it manages by the morning, but it the job is taking so long it’s now collided with the scheduled tasks.

Thanks, I thought it might be some odd audio codec causing problems, but that’s not the case. I’m not sure what’s causing the slowdown for you. I’ll have to get some other help looking at your log.

The analysis of one season did eventually complete, but it took something like 5 hours (I’ll need to check the logs to get an exact number).

Analysis of other seasons are also taking a very long time to complete, and I’m not seeing high CPU usage.

Does this process require large amounts of random IO? I know one of the disks in my machine is currently having some minor issues, but those issues don’t cause playback or thumbnail generation issues.

Nope. It should be able to process a season in a few minutes.

Do you possibly have this setting enabled?

I did. Just turned it off and restarted the server. It still seems to be struggling, restarted the same job and it’s been stuck in the same spot for an hour :disappointed:.

I wonder if you had other jobs that were also waiting in the background to run. Can you provide me a new PMS log?

PMS logs attached. They’re unbroken from the previous set of logs.

Looks like you also have it enabled to generate the preview thumbnails (BIF). You’ve got a slow CPU so this is going to take a bit of time to finish. It appears to be running this first and why the intro detection isn’t getting done. It is waiting for the BIF part to finish first.
